The latest issue of American games magazine EGM has revealed that Bandai-Namco’s Soul Calibur IV will have online multiplayer when it’s released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008.

To quote: “What’s changed this time round is that the next-gen platforms have network infrastructure already in place,” says Soulcalibur IV Director Katsutoshi Sasaki. “We’ve heard from fans that they really want the game to be online, so we figured that, with the current environment, we really couldn’t make Soul Calibur 4 without online play.”

With create-a-character being introduced in Soul Calibur III, the director confirms that it’ll return in Soulcalibur IV. When asked if it will work online as well, he answers: “We definitely want to allow users to fight with their customized characters during online play. But we’re unsure whether or not you’ll be able to trade characters with friends.”
