No Final Fantasy VII remake in development for PS3, but Square Enix staff do want it

Final Fantasy VII for PlayStationSo close to the 10-year anniversary of Final Fantasy VII, 10 million fans of the highly rated Final Fantasy VII Square RPG are still expecting a Final Fantasy VII remake for PlayStation 3, but will they get their wish in 2007?

The Negative. There will be no Final Fantasy VII remake according to Square Enix character designer Tetsuya Nomura, who’s made the biggest debunk yet of the persistent rumor in Japanese magazine Dorimaga by saying: “It appears that there are often overseas rumours like ‘Are you currently developing a VII remake?’ My apologies, but we’re absolutely not making [such a game].”

The Positive. Square Enix game director Yoshinori Kitase says all hope is not lost for a remake: “When we ask the staff who are making FFXIII why they entered the company, there are many people who say, ‘I’m an FFVII fan, I also want to do a remake.’

There is hope. As a conclusion Mr. Nomura adds: “We of course know ourselves what the fans want, so we’d like to continue thinking up a variety of things. As long as there are people who want to make it and people who are waiting for it, we don’t want to proclaim ‘the end.’

Sounds like we may not have heard the last of the Final Fantasy VII remake rumours. All we can give you right now is the technical demo that Square Enix made to demonstrate the power of the PlayStation 3:
