Warning: Do not patch S.T.A.L.K.E.R. First patch breaks saved games

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl for PCSix long years after S. T. A. L. K. E. R. : Shadow of Chernobyl was first announced for PC, and after four years of delays, the FPS with RPG elements was finally released last week.

If you’re playing the game right now, DO NOT patch it. The recently released 1.0001 patch (we won’t link to it) has apparently come with a detrimental problem: the patch will break any currently saved games. To quote the beginning of the patch:

“Please note that Saved games from previous versions will NOT work with the patch. After installing this patch, please go to “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\STALKER-SHOC\savedgames” and make sure any saves that were created prior to installing the patch are deleted. You will need to make sure that hidden folders are visible on the view tab of the folder options menu.”

While the patch does address single- and multiplayer balance issues, fixes game crashes, and other various problems, we’d suggesting waiting for developer GSC Game World to release a future patch without any side-effects. Unless you enjoy having to start all over. 😛 Via Arstechnica
