Sega making game of His Dark Materials 1: The Golden Compass (aka The Northern Lights)
His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass hopes to be the big fantasy film this Christmas. Based on Philip Pullman’s first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy, The Golden Compass aka Northern Lights, the movie is of course followed by a video game. Sega will be releasing the action game tie-in on December 7th, 2007.
Players on the PC, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PS3, PSP, and DS, take on the role of either Lyra, the young girl at the centre of the story looking for her friend, or Iorek Byrnison, a powerful armor-clad polar bear:
* As Lyra, the focus is on exploration and item-collecting, as well as evading and deceiving your way through a variety of confrontations. Lyra also has the ability to use her daemon pal Pan (Pantalaimon) to solve certain puzzles and interact with different elements during her quest to rescue a friend kidnapped by a mysterious organization known as The Gobblers.
* As Iorek the gameplay switches to a more combat-heavy style. Carrying Lyra on his back, Iorek battles against enemies using special attacks.
Together, they must use a magical golden compass and other items to explore the land and fight their way through confrontations in order to help Lyra’s friend. The game features 13 different locations, including all-new environments that don’t appear in the book or film. Via IGN
