PS3 backwards compatibility issues detailed per game

PS3 backwards compatibleAfter the Japanese PS3 launch we mentioned 200 PSone and PS2 games were having problems with the PS3‘s backwards compatibility, including details of the big titles like Final Fantasy XI, Tekken 5, Guitar Hero, Gran Turismo 4, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill 2, and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams that experienced problems.

Now that a week later the PS3 launched in the U.S. last Friday, Sony put up an English PS3 database so you can search through hundreds of PSone & PS2 titles to check for backwards compatibility. The issues that have come up in the big titles are mentioned below.

* Code Age Commanders: Problems (including data loss) with save game data.
* Devil May Cry: The screen will sometimes freeze during the title demo.
* Driving Emotion Type-S: BGM may not properly play back during races.
* Final Fantasy XI and its expansions are unplayable because they require the PS2 hard drive.
* Gran Turismo 4: The screen may freeze following the title demo.
* Guitar Hero: Won’t work with the controller, as the PS3 doesn’t recognize some of the inputs.
* Hot Shots Golf 3/4: Some sort of problem with the controls becoming unresponsive.
* Hyper Street Fighter II Anniversary Edition: The screen will not appear correctly in some instances. The S.F.II Movie cannot play properly.
* ICO: Throughout gameplay and FMA’s, the screen flickers.
* Megaman X7: There are times when the background music won’t play properly.
* Radiata Stories: Background music during movie scenes may not play back properly.
* Silent Hill 2: When going from the title screen to the demo screen, the screen may freeze.
* Star Ocean Till the End of Time: Movie scenes may not have proper sound playback.
* Suikoden III: Cannot read PS1 data during the game.
* Tekken 5: A number of modes don’t play background music properly. In Time Attack mode when Xiaou is selected as player, the title does not recognize controller input when the user progresses to Stage 6.
* Operator’s Side: The game freezes at the logo screen when started up with the Seamic controller.
* Onimusha: During movie playback, the sound will occasionally stop.
* Onimusha Dawn of Dreams: Screen will occasionally appear 2cm to the right.
* Xenosaga Episode II: The opening movie sometimes stops and sometimes doesn’t properly play background music.

Some problems, including those for Tekken 5, Ace Combat 5, Oz, SOCOM and so forth, were fixed with the System 1.10 update, mentions IGN.
