New Resident Evil movie, Extinction, comments from Paul W.S. Anderson

Resident Evil 4The director/producer for the Resident Evil movies, Paul W.S. Anderson, most famous for his previous Resident Evil flicks (Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse) as well as his game-movie Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon, was recently interviewed at the Hollywood and Games Summit where he made the following statement:

“So the third movie, Resident Evil: Extinction is set several years in the future and it’s pretty much after the Umbrella Corporation has failed to control the outbreaks of the T-Virus and the world has literally been wiped out. There’s very little humanity left and a handful of human survivors are traveling around the remnants of the world in these heavily armored convoys and what they do is they go to the least populated parts of the world, because they figure that’s where the least undead will be, and they travel in these heavily armored trucks and customized rolling fortresses — it’s very Road Warrior — at high speed so that the undead don’t get anywhere near them.

So that’s where the movie takes place, primarily in the deserts of Nevada and around Las Vegas. But of course, it’s a Las Vegas that has kind of fallen now, because what’s happened is, with no one to take care of it, the desert has come back in and half-buried Vegas. So we built all these casinos which are sort of buried in the sand.”

The movie is scheduled for release in 2007 and Paul Anderson is credited with writing the screenplay as well as producing. Milla Jovovich is reprising her roll as Alice, and so will Sienna Guillory, who plays the blue top, miniskirt wearing Jill Valentine (who made her debut in the original game and re-starred in RE3). However, another big female character from the series, Claire Redfield (who first made her appearence in Resident Evil 2, followed by Code Veronica) is also going to appear in the film as well, played by Ali Larter (Final Destination, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back).
