Acclaim’s cancelled Red Star game REVIVED! Raiden III also coming

raiden iiiSome of you may remember a very good looking action game in development at the now defunct (although recently resurrected as a completely new company) Acclaim studios called The Red Star. The comic book based game garnared lots of praise and was looking great when the game was sadly cancelled as Acclaim went bankrupt. And even more sadly, the game never got picked up by another publisher. Well gamers prayers have been answered!

Even though the awesome looking game was put in the freezer for over 2 years since the end of Acclaim, the game has finally been picked up by XS Games and will be released in America for the Playstation 2 in “early August“. The Xbox version of Red Star is still up in the air however.

Now all that’s left of the old Acclaim stable is Four Horseman of the Apocalypse. Juiced was picked up and released by THQ and the equally exciting comic license for 100 Bullets was recently acquared by D3Publishing of America, who will release a brand-new game built from the ground up that is scheduled for the third quarter of ’07. Four Horseman was another Acclaim game that was looking great but sadly ended up getting the ax and never being picked up by another publisher. But after hearing of Red Star finally being scooped up and resurrected on PS2, maybe there is hope for Four Horseman afterall.

And in more good news, Taito’s arcade top-down shoot-’em-up Raiden III was also picked up for release in America by XS Games! The latest installment in the classic arcade series is tentatively scheduled for release in August or September. According to XS Games’ representative, Raiden III will carry a budget price tag, while The Red Star will be priced somewhere in between the budget range and a full-priced game.

And now watch the trailer for Red Star to see the game in action:
