Soul Edge 2 turned into Soul Calibur V

Soul Calibur IV had clothes breakage with girls and guys. Soul Calibur V might not
Remember Soul Edge? Ever thought about Soul Edge 2? Neither did I, but apparently Soul Calibur V director Daishi Odashima has!

According to the director of the upcoming Soul Calibur IV sequel, Soul Calibur V was originally going to go by the title “Soul Edge 2”.

However Namco wouldn’t let that name go and forced him to change it to Soul Calibur V. Its unknown though, at this point, if there was anything different besides the name.

To quote:

“Actually, I asked the company if we can call the game ‘Soul Edge 2’ but they said ‘no'” revealed Odashima, director of Soul Calibur 5.

In case you don’t know what the heck is being talked about, Soul Edge (or “Soul Blade” as it was known in some territories) was the predecessor to Soul Calibur (which made its debut in arcades in 1998 and on the Dreamcast in 1999.

Soul Edge was released in 1996 and later ported to the PlayStation and released in most Western territories as “Soul Blade”.

I remember the game from a local bowling alley that was nearby. I used to bike with my friends up to the bowling alley and we’d play Soul Edge there. Fun times.

In other Soul Calibur V news, the director also revealed that the clothing breakage effect may not return in part 5, saying it was “a bit much”. That kinda makes me sad, many great laughs and hilarious party nights with girls and boys alike were made better because of the ripping off of clothing!

Did you ever play Soul Edge/Soul Blade? Do you think the clothing/armor breakage should return in Soul Calibur 5?
