Mortal Kombat II added a whole host of new characters and increased the playable roster from 7 to 12 when it debuted at the arcades in 1993.
Not all of the characters from the first game made the cut as playable characters in MK2 though, as Sony and Kano are absent from the roster (but you can see them chained up in the background of the Kahn’s Arena stage, though they remain unplayable).
