The Gears of War 3 release date isn’t until September 20, 2011 yet over 1 million pre-orders worldwide make it the most pre-ordered game in Xbox 360 HISTORY!

And we still have have four months to go! Simply incredible. You know what is also incredible?

Over 1.29 million fans over 145 different countries have played the Gears of War 3 beta!

“While the beta was a fun way to give players an early taste it provided us with invaluable feedback to help us refine and polish Gears of War 3 to ensure it’s truly the culmination of the trilogy we promised to the fans.” — Cliffy B.

No doubt they loved what they saw, cause seemingly every single one of them has gone out and pre-ordered the game! I wonder how many picked up the Gears of War 3 Epic and limited special editions.

Gears creator Cliff Bleszinski called it “an overwhelming success”, also saying, “we can’t thank the fans enough. While the beta was a fun way to give players an early taste of our game, it also provided us with invaluable feedback to help us refine and polish Gears of War 3 to ensure it’s truly the culmination of the trilogy we promised to the fans.”

Here are some additional statistics from the Gears of War 3 beta that prove what a powerhouse franchise the series is. As if Gears of War 1 and Gears of War 2 left you with any doubt.

  • 145 different countries participated in the beta.
  • 249 years worth of matches played.
  • More than 11 million matches completed.
  • More than 927 million kills recorded.
  • More than 131 million executions performed.
  • More than 23 million deaths by chainsaw.
  • Nearly 23 BILLION bullets fired.
  • 460 million ribbons and 294 million medals earned.
  • 435 thousand people earned the beta exclusive Thrashball Cole skin to use in the retail game.
  • 234 thousand people earned the beta exclusive Gold Retro Lancer to use in the retail game.

    And just in case you can’t get enough of Gears of War, as you’ve already seen in the pic above, an all-new Gears of War Board Game has been announced! It will be released by Fantasy Flight Games. No release date announced yet, but hopefully it’ll be ready in time for the September 20th release of Gears of War 3.

    Epic Games has released their upcoming Gears of War 3 beta schedule for Maps and Game Types.

    Those who are a part of the beta can see when certain features will be unlocked, including some nifty beta-exclusives that will be available for players to unlock!

    Beta Maps & Game Types Schedule:

  • April 18th – April 24th: TDM on Thrashball and Checkout.
  • April 25th – May 1st: TDM and KOTH on Thrashball, Checkout, Trenches and Old Town.
  • May 2nd – May 8th: TDM, KOTH, and CTL on Thrashball, Checkout, Trenches, and Old Town.
  • May 9th – May 15th: TDM, KOTH, and CTL on Thrashball, Checkout, Trenches, and Old Town.

    Exclusive Beta Unlockables:

  • Flaming Hammerburst Complete one match by Sunday, April 24 to permanently unlock.
  • Flaming Lancer Complete one match during the week of April 25 to permanently unlock.
  • Flaming Sawed-Off Shotgun Complete one match during the week of May 2 to permanently unlock.
  • Flaming Gnasher Shotgun Complete one match during the week of May 9 to permanently unlock.
  • Beta Tester Medal — Wear it proudly, Gear. Complete one match in the Beta to permanently unlock.
  • Thrashball Cole — Unlock Thrashball Cole to play as Augustus Cole as he was before Emergence Day — a legendary Thrashball athlete known for his ferocious, flamboyant style. Complete 50 matches in any game type to unlock for the Beta period. To permanently unlock, complete 10 matches as Thrashball Cole during the Beta period.
  • Gold-Plated Retro Lancer — Before the chainsaw bayonet was deployed at the beginning of the Locust-Human War, the original Lancer assault rifle had a large fixed blade. Complete 90 matches in any game type to unlock for the Beta period. To permanently unlock, score 100 kills with the Gold-Plated Retro Lancer during the Beta period.

    The Gears of War 3 beta exclusives will be permanantly unlocked for your profile and will carry over to the real game! The Gears of War 3 release date is on September 20, 2011 exclusively for Xbox 360.
