PSP Go handheld release date is October 1, 2009, worldwide

PSP Go new handheld system announced by Sony at E3 2009
Sony announced the PSP Go handheld system at E3 2009 at the Sony Press Conference. The system will release on October 1, 2009 worldwide (at a price of $249) and will debut alongside Grand Turismo PSP; A full-fledged Gran Turismo game in a portable package. Sadly this didn’t come as a surprise as the PSP Go was leaked before the press conference, thus Sony called its reveal the “worst-kept secret of E3 2009″.

But in case you didn’t hear before, here is the official dirt on the new system. The PSP Go features a number of enhancements and changes over the previous PSP-3000 handheld (which will remain on the market, allowing consumers to choose which one they want).

First off the PSP Go does not include a UMD drive! Instead gamers will simply download their games onto the system via the built-in WiFi. The UMD Drive has been replaced with 16GB of internal Flash Memory as well as a Memory Stick Micro slot if you run out of space.

The biggest feature of the PSP Go, outside of the lack of a UMD Drive, is the fact that the system now has a sliding design similar to many cell phones. The game’s button controls now appear on the sliding portion, making it more compact and portable than ever. In fact it is 15% lighter and 43% smaller than the PSP-3000. The system will launch in two colors, Piano Black and Pearl White (the two most popular colors of the PSP since it’s launch in 2004).

Naturally, this means that all future PSP titles will be available for download via the PlayStation Network from this point forward (as well as being available on UMD disc). Additionally, older titles will also continuously be added to the PlayStation Network. You’ll also be able to download free demos, PS1 classics, additional downloadable content for game titles and trailers onto your PSP from the PlayStation Store.

You will be able to access the PS Store directly from your PSP of course, but they are also adding other ways to get content onto your PSP. You can now do so via the PlayStation 3 or now via your computer, using the new “Media Go” service. This not only allows you to download content from your PC directly into your PSP via the new software application, but you will also be able to manage your PSP content from your PC using the service. This includes managing games, videos, pictures and music. The program is easy to use and will be freely bundled with the PSP Go.

Also coming this fall for the PSP is a new music application called “SensMe Channels” that will allow users to “enjoy their favorite music stored on their PSP through a rich user interface, designed exclusively for PSP.” SensMe Channels is a mood-based application and music recommendation system that categorizes your music content into channels for your every mood, such as “Relax”, “Dance” or “Upbeat” and then recommends playlists for other users.

The game looks essentially the same as the previous titles, God of War 1, God of War 2 and God of War: Chains of Olympus, however graphically the game is leagues ahead of those titles and looks stunning on the PlayStation 3.

The enemies are bigger, the moves are more brutal than ever and the game features a few new attacks, weapons, enemies and the like.

The Last Guardian AKA TRICO announced as PS3-exclusive

The Last Guardian screenshot. Was TRICO for PS3 by Team ICO
TRICO made its debut appearance at Sony’s E3 2009 Press Conference and was given the official title of “The Last Guardian”. The trailer that was leaked earlier turned out to be exactly on key so for those who saw it some of the surprise was unfortunately sucked out. But regardless the game definitely looks impressive and like another masterpiece from Team ICO.

The game really has a strong cinematic, movie vibe of something you’d almost expect from say Disney or Pixar (but with a more serious bend). Personally I find the game extremely captivating, you don’t often see this kind of thing in videogames.

Check out the trailer yourself which includes some interesting gameplay footage as well towards the end.

    ModNation Racers announced as PS3-exclusive

    ModNation Racers racetrack creation screenshot
ModNation Racers was revealed as a PS3 exclusive racing game from developer United Front Games as the newest title with the tagline “Play. Create. Share” that was first used with LittleBigPlanet.

The game looks to do what LittleBigPlanet did for platformers and apply it to a kart racer! In ModNation Racers, players are empowered to personalize the entire game, from the characters and cars to the tracks themselves!

    According to the developers,
“Vinyl art & collector toys were an inspiration for us as we set out to create a game about creativity and self expression. It was in this spirit of creativity that we developed our character, kart and track editors. We wanted to give the user the ability to make whatever they wanted, but do so in a way that felt like playing and not working. For example, you just drive and the track is created behind you, so it’s intuitive and fun.

An expression that came up early in development was “anonymity to superstardom”, which is exactly how we want the user to feel. You create your ideal character, kart or track, then upload and share it with the world. Next thing you know, you’re ranked as one of the top designers in the ModNation community!”

This game truly looks amazing and very intuitive and easy to use! Just like LittleBigPlanet!

    Final Fantasy XIV screenshot
In what is definitely one of the biggest surprises of the E3 2009 show, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy XIV: Online exclusively for the PS3!

As the title states, this is Square’s long-awaited MMO follow-up to Final Fantasy XI: Online. Square has actually been in development with an MMO for quite a while, and this is reportedly the “code name Rapture” project that they have been working on.

They didn’t announce a ton of details nor show gameplay footage of the title but they did release a brief CG trailer (at least it’s assumed that it is not in-game) that gives gamers they’re first glimpse at the upcoming title.

Here are the official stats on the project:

*Confirmed for PS3 and PC. They are currently considering other platforms like “Microsoft Hardware” but nothing has been decided.
*There will be no character transfers from FFXI to FFXIV, but you will be able to transfer your Friends List.
    *PlayOnline will not be used.
*Races will be “similar” to the ones in FFXI.

*FFXI will not be canceled with the release of FFXIV. There is another year of content for FFXI planned currently.
*FFXIV will be more casual friendly.
*FFXIV will have solo content. Battles will range from many vs. many to many vs. one.
*There will be a simultaneous worldwide release, with English, Japanese, German and French language versions at launch. No plans for Spanish in the short-term.
*The trailer had both CGI and in-game rendering. No confirmation of any in-game combat or actual in-game content.

Assassins Creed 2 release date is November 17, 2009. Assassins Creed 1 sold over 8 million units worldwide

Assassin's Creed 2 Ezio Dive screenshot
Assassin’s Creed 2 was shown off at E3 2009 during both Sony’s E3 Press Conference as well as at Ubisoft’s E3 Press Conference. The game will be released on November 17th, 2009 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Although the trailer gives players a good look at the game, it is the gameplay demo that Sony showed off that really whet fans appetites.

But before that, they dropped a bomb regarding the original Assassin’s Creed 1, announcing that that game has sold an astounding 8 million copies! Becoming one of the highest selling new IP’s of all time. Very nice!

The Assassin’s Creed 2 demo starts off in the city square with fireworks going off in the background and series protagonist Desmond stalking through the streets as another one of his ancient ancestors, just like in the first game.

However in Assassin’s Creed 2 you do not start out as an Assassin, but rather as a nobelman who is on a quest for vengeance. As Ezio, players will learn a number of even more deadlier attacks than Altier learned in the first Assassin’s Creed and they get even more lethal as players progress through the story.

Leonardo Da Vinci also plays a big part in the game as a personal friend of Ezio’s. And he will outfit Ezio with a number of his inventions and gadgets throughout the game, including his famous flying machine that allows Ezio to sour through the city skies! Or glide rather.

You can see the flying machine in action in this video of the Assassin’s Creed 2 E3 2009 Sony Press Conference demo.

Here is the official E3 2009 trailer for Assassin’s Creed 2.
