Mass Effect 3 will include your or at least a Shepard

Help Commander Shepard stay alive until Mass Effect 3
Developer BioWare has explained that your character started in the first Mass Effect will carry through as the main protagonist straight through the entire trilogy up to Mass Effect 3.

Well, it’s only “your character”, if you manage to keep Commander Shepard alive. The thing is that you’ll only get to carry your Shepard on to Mass Effect 3 if you survive through Mass Effect 2.

But it’s not quite like when you let important supporting character die in the first game and they won’t ever return again in the sequels. It’s different for Shepard; as Mass Effect 2’s Project Director, Casey Hudson, claims that while it’s possible to kill Shephard in Mass Effect 2, the character will return for the third and final game in the trilogy.

“If your Shepard dies in the end of Mass Effect 2 [...] you can play Mass Effect 3 as ‘a’ Shepard – just not ‘your’ Shepard.” -Casey Hudson

To quote: “If your Shepard dies in the end of Mass Effect 2, that’s the end of him / her.

In that case, you can play Mass Effect 3 as ‘a’ Shepard – just not ‘your’ Shepard. As in real life, not being able to keep living is really the main down-side of death. So if you care about playing the next game with your character, make sure you survive this one.”

Blizzard honestly trying to release StarCraft II in 2009. Honest

StarCraft 2 may be released this year. Gameplay screenshot
Looks like StarCraft 2 may in fact make it THIS year. As opposed to next. Or the year after that. Or 2015. Do I kid? Well maybe.

But in a return to form for Blizzard, they were recently asked about rumors that StarCraft 2’s open-beta is nearly here, which would suggest that the release isn’t too far off. And they stated that no matter what, Blizzard will not release StarCraft 2 “if it’s not ready”.

In other words, the game COULD come out. Or it COULD be delayed. Who knows for how long, could be years. But hopefully the game (or games, considering it has been split into three parts) will come out sooner rather than later. And hopefully that sooner is this year.

Day of the Tentacle sequel might appear as episodic Day of the Tentacle series

Day of the Tentacle artwork
A Day of the Tentacle revival in the form of an episodic series ala Sam & Max from TellTale Games may be possible, or simply next in the line of cards after they release The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition . . . . depending on how that game sells, of course.

This was revealed in an interview with videogamer.com by TellTale CEO Dan Connors who said that “feasible is a good word” when asked about the chances of an episodic Day of the Tentacle series. “I always think of Sam & Max, Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island as the big three franchises,” Connors continued.

He thinks that Day of the Tentacle/Maniac Mansion would be the next logical step, but they have taken a “wait and see” approach because it all depends on how well The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and the upcoming Tales of Monkey Island episodic series sells.

Ferry is a big fan of these classic adventure games. Unfortunately for me, I grew up without a computer of any kind and was thus a console-only kid. So I have never played any of these games.

Which is why I’m definitely looking forward to picking up The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition when it releases for Xbox Live Arcade and PC later this year.

And you should too. Hopefully these games sell well, because if they do we could see the rest of the LucasArts adventure games get re-releases or new titles or episodic series. Including beloved classics like Full Throttle, Grim Fandango or Loom.

Samus Phazon Suit light-up figurine costs $225

Phazon Suit Samus collectible figurine statue lights up. From First 4 Figures*drools*

Now that you have caught your breath, time for the bad news. See that amazing, incredible, mind-blowingly beautiful hand-crafted light-up Phazon Suit Samus collectible figurine that’s making your eyes water. $225 dollars! Wha-BAM!

Created by First 4 Figures and delicately hand-crafted, the Phazon Suit Samus collectible figurine statue stands 11.5″ inches tall (about 25 cm) and has a mirrored base. Most impressive of all, throughout the statue are 25 LED smart lights. Why smart? Because they can sense the light around them thanks to an internal IC chip. So when you flip the lights off, all your friends’ jaws will drop as Samus slowly comes to brilliant light.

My mind is blown. Maybe I should sell my PS3 . . .

And oh yeah. Limited print run of 1500 figures. *cries*

Diablo III statue costs $300

Diablo III Overthrown collectible statue figurine
Boys and their toys . . . Their $300 toys. Yes that is the price of the infinitely crafted Diablo III “Overthrown” statue that you see before you.

And just to put that number into some kind of perspective . . . for $300 you could buy a 40GB PlayStation 3 system, a 60GB Xbox 360 game system, or a Wii with a game or two.

In other words, that’s A LOT of money to spend on a statue . . . toy . . . figurine . . . thingy. Whatever you prefer to call it.

But if you do want to buy it, you can do so in the fourth quarter of this year thanks to Slideshow Collectibles. So keep your eyes peeled.

Uncharted 2 voice actor interviews with Nolan North (Drake), Emily Rose (Elena) and Claudia Black (Chloe)

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves features great, humanistic voice acting
The voice acting stars of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves attended E3 2009 to promote the awesome sequel to the first Uncharted 1: Drake’s Fortune.

Thankfully all three main voice actors from the game were on-hand to give interviews to PlayStation Blog. Including Nolan North, the voice of Nathan Drake; Claudia Black, the voice of Chloe Frazier; And Emily Rose, the voice of Elena Fisher.

They all give a lot of very interesting insights into the production of Uncharted 2 including what sets this game apart from other voice acting projects they’ve done; The fact that developer Naughty Dog let them improvise and ad-lib, allowing for some really interesting lines of dialogue.

Without further ado, meet the ladies of Uncharted 2.

And now meet the face of the game himself, Nolan North! Who has also done other major voice acting videogame projects such as voicing the Prince in Prince of Persia.

Necessary Force game announced by Midway in hopes of selling it

Necessary Force new Midway game screenshot
Necessary Force is the name of an all-new game from Midway, in fact an all-new IP that is being developed by Midway Newcastle.

And even though Midway is going through bankruptcy, they are developing the game anyway in hopes that someone will pick them up along with their new title.

You can see the open-world detective game yourself in this impressive target video:

“The idea of a detective who sets his own rules is the sort of story that’s been around in movies for a while, but we don’t think anyone’s managed to capture the essence of those choices and consequences in games,” said studio head Craig Duncan. “That unprecedented level of open world influence and troubled morality is something we’re really keen to explore.”

“It’s really important that people know that this is a team that wants to stick together – sometimes when you look at buying a studio you can worry that the real talent, the people, will just flee the ship, leaving you with some IP, kit and an empty building; the pieces of the puzzle that aren’t really worth anything,” he added.
