Here at Video Games Blogger we do what we can to provide you, the reader, with unique, original and highly in-depth reviews of all our favorite titles. We don’t pretend to be up to date reviewing the latest releases, we simply do not have that amount of time or money. But what we can do is spend far more time with each title than most publications get to, and then we can write a review that goes far more in-depth than what you’d find at your typical game web-site or in your typical mainstream gaming magazine. Please note that we only list multiplatform titles for the system we reviewed the game on. We here at VGB love ourselves some classic gaming! So expect reviews from all spectrum’s: Be it PC, console, or handheld; New, old or ancient; Popular, obscure or shunned . . . All games will get the in-depth review you expect from Video Games Blogger, be them classics or newly released titles.

Past Review Experience & What I’ve Learned
I know that I’m always disappointed when a cool game that I was looking forward to (or one from the past that I highly enjoyed) only receives a small review from publications that I read. So my philosophy is to give as much information as I can and not worry about length. Thus you will find that our reviews can get really long (I hope you enjoy reading!).

I also believe that reviews should not only tell you a person’s opinion on a game, but also how that game is played. I remember when I used to rent games, inspired by a good review, yet when I got the game home I didn’t know how to play it (often times they didn’t come with the instruction book), and the review didn’t offer me any help. So from then on I made it a point to make sure I not only offer my opinion of the game, but also delve into the controls and give the reader a good idea of how exactly the game is played. Maybe even drop a few hints along the way to save them from frustration and keep them from turning to a faq or guide to get their answers (where they might also receive spoilers or the like).

Explanation Of Rating System
Each category is given a score independent of the others, meaning one category DOES NOT effect another. The scale is one to ten with ten being the best, and “.5″ designating in between . . . better than the whole number, but not good enough to go up an entire rating. If there was any one category to be a “main” score it would be Fun Factor. Fun Factor means exactly that, how FUN the game is.

Roughly, the point system would go something like this:

0.0 - Completely & utterly fails at all that it does.
1.0 - Avoid like the plague.
2.0 - No.
3.0 - Way too many problems to be worth any value.
4.0 - Very few redeeming qualities and way too many flaws.
5.0 - Average, nothing special. Not much going for it.
6.0 - Above Average, this game will appeal to some despite flaws.
7.0 - Pretty good. Easy to recommend for people who like this style.
8.0 - Great!
9.0 - Must have! Everyone should love this and have it in their collection.
10 - Masterpiece. Doesn’t get any better than this.

Categorization Explained
Games are broken down by system for easy categorization. Normally we do not review the same game on multiple platforms. However, just because a game is listed under a certain platform (typically the platform the game was originally released on) does not mean that the review won’t contain info on the same game for other platforms, nor does it mean that the game was reviewed on that specific platform. If I do not own an original version of the game, then that game’s review will be listed under the system that I reviewed it on.

My Philosophy and Reviewing Convictions
As a general rule we WILL NOT (I repeat, WILL NOT) review a game via PC emulator. We do not believe in emulation generally and am a staunch believer in giving developers and publishers the money they need through the actual purchase of their games, not supporting piracy by playing games on emulators. Besides, some games can only get a sequel if enough people buy them!

Also, due to my own convictions, I do not review games unless I play through them again specifically for reviewing purposes. What this means is that I will not delve deep into my memory and review a game based solely on that (like I’d actually trust my memory). No. I will legitimately fire the game up, play through it again (often more than once) and write my review based off those fresh and recent impressions (this is Astro speaking).

So you may see far fewer reviews here at VGB than at other web-sites (although our list is slowly but surely growing), but you have my word that what you read is based off my completely recent opinion of the game as a whole (no “beta copies” here).
