New Super Mario Bros Wii cheats and tips guide

New Super Mario Bros Wii cheats and tips guide
Unlock New Super Mario Bros. Wii cheats to secrets with the tips in this guide. This includes how to unlock hidden levels for World 9, how to make Mushroom Houses appear, and various tips for this all-new four-player Mario platformer for the Wii.

How to unlock World 9 secret levels

You can unlock up to 8 secret levels for the hidden World 9, which is opened up after you have completed the game once. However to unlock these secret stages, you have to do more than just beat the game. Collecting all of the hidden Star Coins for each of the game’s worlds will unlock a new corresponding level for World 9. So you must collect all Star Coins in the game to unlock all of the new levels in World 9.

Here is how to unlock each level:

How to Unlock Level 9-1 - Collect all Star Coins in World 1.
How to Unlock Level 9-2 - Collect all Star Coins in World 2.
How to Unlock Level 9-3 - Collect all Star Coins in World 3.
How to Unlock Level 9-4 - Collect all Star Coins in World 4.
How to Unlock Level 9-5 - Collect all Star Coins in World 5.
How to Unlock Level 9-6 - Collect all Star Coins in World 6.
How to Unlock Level 9-7 - Collect all Star Coins in World 7.
How to Unlock Level 9-8 - Collect all Star Coins in World 8.

Here is a video showing off World 9-1.

What to Use Star Coins For

You can use Star Coins, which are the big coins you see scattered throughout the game’s levels, to unlock Hint Movies by purchasing them with said Star Coins. These Hint Movies are kind of like the Super Guide Blocks, except these show you how to perform the more advanced moves and techniques of highly skilled New Super Mario Bros. Wii players.

These movies were created by Nintendo’s own developers and testers on the game and reveal their wisdom for the highest level of New Super Mario Bros. expert play. These tricks include how to earn infinite 1-Ups at particular spots in stages, how to perform Super Skills, how to find hidden areas and how to find secret Star Coins.

If you are looking for a guide to find all Star Coins in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, then click the link for GameSpot’s excellent guide that shows you each Star Coin location in the game.

Here is an example of a Infinite 1-Up Skill:

In World 1-3, a four-player Yoshi stage, three players can ride Yoshi and use Yoshi in combination with the player not using Yoshi to collect all the coins and power-ups in the level. This is performed by swallowing the player not riding Yosh, and then spitting him out between Yoshis, never allowing the player to touch the ground. In this manner, each enemy killed will turn into a 1-Up.

Here is a video showing off the kind of skills that the Hint Movies show you.

Additionally, you will get a nice reward that is “definitely worth it” for collecting all of the Star Coins in the game, according to Nintendo. This gives players good reason to go back into the levels they’ve already beaten to replay them at least once more to try and collect all of the Star Coins. The tip referred to may be the unlockable “World 9″. You can read about how to unlock the World 9 stages above.

How to Make Mushroom Houses Appear on the World Map

Just like in Super Mario Bros. 3, Toad Houses will sometimes appear on the World Map. However which Toad Houses appear is NOT random. Using the trick below, you can try to make a certain Toad House appear.

Toad Houses will appear on any level where a Toad is trapped. You must save that Toad in the level for any house to appear. The trick comes at the end of the level. The type of Toad House that appears will depend on the last digit on the Level Timer when you hit the Flag Pole at the end of the stage.

Mushroom Toad Houses New Super Mario Bros Wii screenshot

How to Make a Gold Mushroom House Appear - To make a Gold Mushroom House appear, you must hit the Flag Pole with Toad intact with the last digit of the Timer landing on the numbers 7, 8, or 9.
How to Make a Green Mushroom House Appear - To make a Green Mushroom House appear, you must hit the Flag Pole with Toad intact with the last digit of the Timer landing on the numbers 0, 1, 2 or 3.
How to Make a Red Mushroom House Appear - To make a Red Mushroom House appear, you must hit the Flag Pole with Toad intact with the last digit of the Timer landing on the number 4, 5 or 6.

How to Make the Super Guide Appear

Die at least 8 times in a level and the helpful “Super Guide Block” will appear. Hit the block and you will see a live demo of the level being played correctly by Luigi. This “Super Guide” can then be resumed at any point and you can continue playing manually as Luigi.

Watch the Super Guide of level 1-1, and you are essentially seeing a tutorial on how to play a Mario game. The Super Guide is meant to help novices be able to complete the game even if they’ve never played a Mario game before, because they can now simply skip difficult sections of a stage that they couldn’t pass themselves and can do so with no penalty; Simply resuming from where the Super Guide left off after it passes the difficult part for them.

Not only that, but you can also find out HOW to pass a level by watching the Super Guide demo. However the Super Guide does not reveal secrets, hidden areas, or the finer advanced tricks of Super Mario Bros. Wii play.

If you watch the Super Guide to the end, it will give you the option of re-trying the level yourself. Or continuing on to the next stage.

Those who are able to beat the game without using the Super Guide Block will be rewarded with a special bonus on the Title Screen for their efforts.

Here is a video of the Super Guide in action.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii has no online multiplayer on purpose

No online multiplayer for New Super Mario Bros. Wii cause of the developers in Japan says Reggie
New Super Mario Bros. Wii lacks an online multiplayer mode, much to the dismay of many Wii owners who would’ve liked to be able to play the game’s cooperative and competitive modes with their friends and family that live far away from them.

Now that the game has been released, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has stated that he would have personally loved for the game to include online multiplayer . . . but the decision was left up to the guys in Japan who developed it.

To quote:

“They believe this experience, in the same room, to be elbowing your friends and family members as you’re playing the game is ideal. It was really their decision. I personally would have loved for it to be online capable as well, but having played the game, I really can’t fault it for not being online multiplayer. This was a decision made purely by the developers”

He also says that the games multiplayer is so good regardless that it will satisfy even the most “jaded, even your most competitive player.”

I think it’s very sad. The game should’ve had BOTH online and offline modes, especially in this day and age. Maybe we’ll see a sequel though that will include it, as you know the game will be a huge seller.

Phoenix Wright coming to WiiWare in Japan

Phoenix Wright WiiWare
The popular DS game Phoenix Wright is coming to WiiWare in Japan announced Capcom. The previously DS-exclusive adventure series had been rumored recently to appear for the Wii Shop’s downloadable service, but has now been officially confirmed.

Sadly though, the games will NOT be new but rather ports of the DS titles ported over to the Wii.

The first Phoenix Wright will be released on December 15th at a price point of 900 Wii Points. The 2nd game will be released on January 26th with the third to follow on February 23rd. Both of these will cost 1200 Wii Points.

Finally, something non-rehash will be released on March 16th, 2010. Costing 1200 Wii Points, it will be an all new additional scenario (5th case).

Although we are getting little new, hopefully this will mean that Capcom is, in fact, working on an original Wii or WiiWare Phoenix Wright game. Although it may depend on how well these games sell.

Wii Music 2 or Plus talked about by Shigeru Miyamoto

Wii Music 2 Plus looks to be on the way says Miyamoto
Nintendo is not done with Wii Music revealed Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of the game and the mastermind behind Nintendo’s biggest games, mascots and innovations from Mario and Zelda to Wii Fit and Wii Remote & Nunchuck themselves.

Speaking to the Official Nintendo Magazine in Europe, Shiggy revealed that they are planning to do a “Wii Fit Plus”-style upgrade to Wii Music. And although the game hasn’t been revealed yet, this just about confirms it, direct from the source.

“[Wii Music] was a really unique game, and even today, we are receiving several different offers from people in the field of music education,” he said. “I think it still has great potential.” Asked about future plans, Miyamoto could only drop hints. “Unfortunately, we don’t have any news we can talk about at the moment. But like Wii Fit Plus, it’s not really a sequel to the original Wii Fit - but we have added some features to improve the overall experience. It’s kind of an enhanced version.”

Notice how he is talking as if the project already exists. Can’t blame him for trying again though, maybe they can succeed with another swipe at it (since the first Wii Music game underperformed).

Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be very challenging. May use Super Guide

Super Mario Galaxy 2 screenshot. May include Super Guide
Super Mario Galaxy 2 may use the Super Guide system that made its debut in New Super Mario Bros. Wii due to the game’s high difficulty level. This according to Shigeru Miyamoto himself in an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine.

The Super Guide is probably the main innovative feature in the just-released New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The guide allows the computer to play the game for you. You can then take control of the CPU’s Luigi character at any point and resume playing from where the guide left off. This allows Nintendo to make the levels as difficult as they want without alienating new or novice players who may quit because of the high challenge, since they can literally just skip it with no penalty (though there is a reward for those who don’t use the feature). It’s an ingenious idea, and one that Nintendo has stated in the past that they’d like to bring to future titles.

Speaking about just that in regards to Super Mario Galaxy 2, Miyamoto said, “Well, as far as the challenge of Super Mario Galaxy 2 is concerned, I think it’s going to be a really challenging game, but whether or not we are going to incorporate the Super Guide, I just cannot tell. In general, wherever and whenever appropriate, I think we will want to incorporate that kind of thing, but I cannot commit to anything specific right now.”

And yes Galaxy 2 will be tougher than the first Super Mario Galaxy game (and the first one wasn’t exactly a cakewalk), as Miyamoto previously stated that Galaxy 2 was being designed “with consideration that we believe that people who played through the first Mario Galaxy have become better players.”

Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released sometime in 2010 as a direct-sequel to the original game (with many levels that were cut out of the original).
