Bound Moves & Controls List

Bound does not show what the game’s move list, advanced move or controller map are. So player Seibei made an overview of all the moves in the game with the exception of how to perform the mysterious sequence break.

• Hold L2 to sprint. You jump a little further and you’re faster of course, but if you have Edge Guard turned off, you can fly off the edge sometimes.

• Press Dodge (O), then Jump (X) to do a long jump. This is necessary for a lot of shortcuts and memory shards, and it’s the fastest way to cover ground. You need a little bit of space in front of you to roll to be able to jump though. Even with Edge Guard on, you can roll off the edge.

• When you have to dance (R2), tapping X is probably the fastest way to move around until you can stop dancing.

• When jumping from a certain height, your character will do a hard landing. If you tap (O) as you’re landing, you should be able to skip the hard landing and transition into a roll and save time.

• You can ascend ladders faster by tapping X and descend ladders faster by holding O.

• With the exception of Chess, you can do the levels in any order you want. Each level represents a fear that the character has, and when you beat the level, you overcome the fear. When you do that, it no longer negatively affects you for the rest of the levels.

• The five fears are Trees, Planes, Steam, Shout, and Pearls. Trees are the tendril things that grab at you and force you to dance to escape. Planes are the black paper airplane swarms that force you to dance. Steam is the red fire looking thing that forces you to quick dodge. Shout is when the giant creature shouts at you and stuns you, forcing you to hide behind cover. Pearls are the streams of tiny beads that force you to dance.

• Most shortcuts seem to be blocked by one or more fears. Shortcuts oftentimes require a long jump. So if you see a fear across a pretty big gap, or if you see a fear crowding a ladder, that’s usually a shortcut.

Memory Shards are those little cube things you pick up in the level. You need every single one to finish the mosaic at the end. You should really only bother doing this in Speedrun Mode so you can get a counter for how many shards you have.

• Memory Shards seem to never be on shortcuts. They’re usually right along the normal path or are a small detour away. You shouldn’t need any specific fear to be overcome in order to get 100% in a level, but it’s just easier overall if you have fears overcome. You’ll also need to find the hidden isle in the level since there are memory shards on them.

• You can quick dodge during a roll jump. So roll, jump, dodge. If you’re trying to go through trees, wait for your controller to vibrate, signaling that they’re trying to grab you, then dodge. You’ll shake off the vines and end your jump with a little roll on the ground and can keep going. If you do it too early, you’ll be affected once you hit the ground, so that’s why you wait for the vibrate. This also works on steam and shouts, possibly planes and pearls. Untested on those two, since there’s no reason yet. Doing a dodge into grass also lets you roll right through some of it quickly. Also, doing a dodge in the air looks to shorten the jump distance, and it seems to prevent you from climbing a ledge, so do it only when you need to.

• When you die a lot of times in a short period of time, the death animation gets shorter. Once you die 4 times in a row, you don’t have an animation anymore. Seemingly if you make a certain amount of progress again without dying, it will reset and you’ll have a long animation when you die again.

• During the first-person sections, it seems like the door opens once you physically get close to each of the 4 people. There is a scene where there’s only three. In any case, as long as you walk by each one, the door should open and learning where each person is standing is the key to getting through those sections quickly.

• Once you’ve gone through the door in a first person section, immediately start holding R2 to dance since you can usually get a headstart on the dancing. This is especially important for Shout since you can almost complete the dance before you ever see your character.

• On banners, you probably knew you can descend from banners faster by holding O, but you can ascend on banners faster by not holding a direction and tapping X. Can’t tell if L2 makes it faster or not, but it doesn’t hurt. This is very important for the Planes speedrun and it even helps on Trees.
