Yooka-Laylee’s First Demo Now Available to PC Backers

Playtonic Games has released Yooka-Laylee’s Toybox demo, giving some backers a chance to get their hands on the platformer. Those who pledged at least £20 (about $26) to the game’s Kickstarter can now grab download codes to check out the pre-alpha version on Linux, Mac and Windows PC.

Announced in May, the Toybox demo is a self-contained, sandbox-style take on the game, meant to offer a glimpse at Yooka-Laylee’s platforming gameplay before its official release. An FAQ warns backers that it’s “only a small sample of the finished production — and visually incomparable.”

The short trailer, above, shows off the various environments at players’ disposal in the demo. Players can perform some of the moves from the game, mess around with props and find collectibles dispersed throughout.

The full Yooka-Laylee is coming out in early 2017 on both computers and consoles. Those who pledged for the crowdfunding campaign’s console-based tiers do not gain access to the Toybox demo.
