We Happy Few Walkthrough

Intro.

We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who don’t take kindly to people who don’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.

Suspicion and Joy.

“We Happy Few” is a survival roguelike, where you must learn to hide in plain sight among the Joy-happy citizens of Wellington Wells. If you act out of turn, or they notice you’re not on Joy, the locals will become suspicious and will rapidly turn your frown upside down! Forcefully. You will need to practice conformity, stealth and combat if you want to survive long enough to escape.

A Mature Story.

Our playable characters are not typical video game heroes – they are flawed and not particularly heroic, warped by the trauma their world has been through. Each character has its own storyline, reacting to the events of the world around them, and their place within it. Our stories are definitely not appropriate for children, but are laced with dark humour, hope, and even a spot of redemption.

1960s England.

Set in a retrofuturistic 1964s, you will find a city ravaged by war and rebuilt by delusionally happy people. Everything appears to be happy in Wellington Wells, including the roads, the people, and its omnipresent television personality, Uncle Jack! However, it’s also a world on the brink of collapse. You’ll discover the history of this world, and how it came to be just so beguilingly happy.

Highly Replayable.

If you die in “We Happy Few”, that’s it – there is no reloading your save. It’s designed to be replayed. Each time you die, you’ll restart in a brand new city, thanks to our procedural generation tech. You’ll be able to customize the world to your liking, and play through using multiple characters and playstyles. Each time, you’ll learn a little more about how to survive in Wellington Wells.

Intro: 2 Ways To Play (Stealth VS. Melee)

Survive for as long as possible in We Happy Few: a bizarre polite society survival simulator that has to be seen to be believed, and it’s not as Bioshock-like as you might expect. This is a creepy alternative 1960s Britain where everyone is dosed up on a drug called Joy. Managing your own Joy intake will be a key consideration as you try to survive long enough to escape Wellington Wells and its, let’s say overzealous, police force.

Mike will start by showing the stealthy way to play, whereas Jane will take the violent melee route at 11:22 minutes in.

Note: Before you start playing, go into the game’s Options menu to turn on Second Wind that puts the player in a dying state when their health reacher zero (instead of dying instantly).
In fact, you can even turn off Permadeath if you want the game world to remain the same instead of getting dynamically generated differently each time you die.

Prologue & Chapter 1: Wellington Wells Bridge Crossing

Welcome to the We Happy Few walkthrough!

Let’s take on the game’s first quest “Bridge Crossing” as you get welcomed to Wellington Wells. Or rather, as you escape Wellington Wells by getting out of town. Obtain the Constable’s Key Card to unlock the Bridge Gate.

Ending Tip: If you take the Joy pill at the start of the game (before actual gameplay begins) the game will end.

Chapter 2: Entering Ravens Holm

Christopher will be your voice-over commentator showing you around the game’s areas.

Time to cross the bridge into Ravens Holm.

Tip: Be on the lookout for Healthy Plants. Picking up these plants will help to make a healthy balm, which increases your health. Especially handy after being downed by enemies and needing to recover fast.

Chapter 3: The Secret House

Next, we find the secret house that holds ephemeral linen.

Chapter 4: Yam Ceremony Animosity

Let’s attempt to view a sacred Yam ceremony…
