Kerbal Space Program Indie Game Coming To Wii U, Xbox One & PS4 Early 2016

Kerbal Space Program will be released in early 2016 for Wii U, Xbox One & PS4. Kerbal Space Program is a fun and engaging, lighthearted yet deep, rocketship simulation game developed by Mexican developer Monkey Squad (now known simply as “Squad”), a marketing company based in Mexico City that took a wild chance on one employee’s crazy videogame idea… And the rest, as they say, is history! The PC version of Kerbal Space Program was a wild success on Steam. Now the game comes to consoles.

The Wii U version will be unique among the simply prettier Xbox One & PS4 versions, as the Wii U version will actually include support for the Wii U GamePad, allowing you to see the perspective from INSIDE your ship on the GamePad screen while you are flying, as well as the regular view on the TV screen!

The Wii U version also includes Touchscreen-based controls (such as for your flight-planning), as well as support for controlling your ship via motion controls via the Wii U gyro (simply move the Wii U GamePad to move your ship!)

Nintendo gives you the details on Kerbal Space Program for Wii U in this short explanation video (skip to 40:30 in the video).

KERBAL SPACE PROGRAM SYNOPSIS

In “KSP” you must build a space-worthy craft, capable of flying its crew out into space without killing them. At your disposal is a collection of parts, which must be assembled to create a functional ship. Each part has its own function and will affect the way a ship flies (or doesn’t). So strap yourself in, and get ready to try some Rocket Science!

Kerbals in Space!

In Kerbal Space Program you must build a space-worthy craft, capable of flying its crew out into space without killing them. So strap yourself in, and get ready to try some Rocket Science!

The game offers three gameplay modes: Sandbox, in which you are free to build anything you can think of; Science Mode, which lets you perform Scientific experiments to advance the knowledge of Kerbalkind and further the available technology; and Career Mode, in which you must manage every aspect of your Space Program, including administration strategies, Crew Management, Reputation, as well as taking up Contracts to earn Funds and upgrade your Space Center Facilities (or repair them).

Add to this the ability to capture asteroids (a feature done in collaboration with NASA), Mining for resources out across the furthest reaches of the Solar System and Constructing Bases & Space Stations in and around other worlds… All this adds up to the award-winning game that has taken the space sim genre by storm.

Here’s an interview with one of the indie developers making the game; talking about it and the Wii U version specifically.

Check out this Kerbal Space Program PC Version Let’s Play.

I’ve never played a simulation game before, of any kind.

But Kerbal Space Program is one of the very few that actually looks very intriguing to me.

The cute little Kerbal’s definitely go a long way in making the game more accessible to the layman.

It’s great to see a game like this come to consoles, especially the Wii U, where simulation games are not seen very often.

It’ll be interesting to see if any kind of Mod support or DLC will be released for the console versions… And whether or not they continue to update the console versions to keep pace with the PC version. Nowadays that seems to typically be the case, so hopefully so.
