Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon PAL Release Date Announced (3DS)

Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon has been given a PAL release date of 19th February 2016 in Europe & February 20th in Australia and is OUT NOW (since November 20th 2015) in America and Japan. The game marks the 4th entry in the “Pokemon Mystery Dungeon” franchise and the second on 3DS; Pokemon Mystery Dungeon being a licensed spin-off series of the “Mystery Dungeon” franchise.

Check out some all-new details on Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon in this video.

The biggest new aspect that fans have to look forward to in Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, is the fact that this game contains EVERY.SINGLE.POKEMON.

That’s right, all 720 existing Pokemon are in the game!

What about the officially “unrevealed” other mystery Pokemon like “Volcanion” or “Pikachu Libre” that raise the total above 720? I’m sure we’ll see them appear in Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon at some point… EVENTUALLY!

Another big new feature is the totally awesome intergalactic “Connection Orb”. This orb is a star-like galaxy map (think: Final Fantasy X‘s “Sphere Grid”) that shows your connection to all 720 Pokemon!

This Connection Orb in Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon is a star-like galaxy map that shows your connection to all 720 Pokemon like a spider’s web! AWESOME!

Using it, you can seek out other Pokemon and take quests that will lead to their discovery. Essentially, this web shows your connection to Pokemon you have met, seen or heard of (just like the Pokedex). As you fully connect to that Pokemon, new branches will be created that lead to other Pokemon… Eventually you’ll be able to connect with all 720 Pokemon!

In Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, players assume the role of one of 20 Pokémon, which include all 18 starting Pokémon from all six main series generations, along with Pikachu and Riolu.

Unlike in other Pokemon games, in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, you actually BECOME the Pokemon and play AS them directly.

It’s been THREE years since the last “Pokemon Mystery Dungeon” game, so hopefully this one will be of a much higher quality, as the last game was panned and not well received by critics or fans, as it felt rushed.

For those who have never heard, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is a spin-off series in the “Mystery Dungeon” franchise of Japanese Rogue-like RPGs; whose licensed spinoffs (“Etrian Mystery Dungeon”, “Pokemon Mystery Dungeon”, “Chocobo Mystery Dungeon”, etc.) are generally lighter & easier than most Rogue-likes…

A genre of RPGs that feature permanent death, randomized labyrinth-grid-based dungeons, heavy penalties for dying, and other unique quirks. In modern times Rogue-like’s have gained in popularity, especially as many Indie RPGs have decided to use more Rogue-like elements.

Only a handful of the “Mystery Dungeon” games have been released in America (the vast majority of the long-running franchise is exclusive to Japan), they include:

* Etrian Mystery Dungeon [3DS, 2015]
* Shiren the Wanderer [Wii, 2010]
* Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo’s Dungeon [Wii, 2008]
* The Nightmare of Druaga: Fushigi no Dungeon [PS2, 2004]
* Torneko: The Last Hope [PS1, 2000]
* Chobobo’s Dungeon 2 [PS1, 1999]

I’m very excited about Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, another hefty RPG with hundreds of hours of gameplay that’s exclusive to the 3DS!

I previously have only played Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, but it was one of the best RPGs I had ever played. I never finished it, but the game featured incredible writing.

Each of the Pokemon you met, had a true personality and unique characteristics in their dialog that truly made you fall in love with each & every one. Making it one of those rare RPGs where I actually liked, nay, even ADORED, every.single.character. Quite a feat.

The story was also very deep, and not the light-fluffy stuff elementarily written like you see in the core-Pokemon franchise (from Pokemon Red & Blue to Pokemon X & Y).

I was greatly surprised by this. It made me want to track down the others and play them as well. So I can’t wait to dive back into the franchise with Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon!
