Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash Announced for 3DS Alongside New Chibi-Robo Amiibo Figure

Chibi Robo: Zip Lash will be released on October 9th, 2015, and is an all-new side-scrolling action platformer starring Nintendo’s favorite oft-forgotten, kinda-neglected lil robot-who-could, “Chibi-Robo”! Nintendo also announced an all-new large-sized Chibi-Robo Amiibo that will be released alongside the game & can be used to turn Chibi-Robo “super”.

Check out this E3 2015 Nintendo Press Conference trailer for Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash.

Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash is an action platformer that looks to combine elements of Castlevania with say, Yoshi’s Island, where it’s about using angles and throwing your “whip”. You mostly whip at various enemies as you make your way through the stage, while swinging from boxes & platforms.

It’s worth noting that the game will get a physical & digital release, as a physical version is available for pre-order now at GameStop for $30, but does NOT look to include the Amiibo. However the game will also include a version where it is bundled with the Amiibo, I imagine for a higher price of $40-50.

Plug Into A New Adventure With Chibi-Robo
Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash comes to the Nintendo 3DS system with a fresh, new take on the franchise.

In this side-scrolling game, Chibi-Robo uses his plug and cord to whip enemies, grapple onto ledges, and swing across chasms.

Power-up the plug and cord to search for collectables and explore previously out of reach areas.

Check out 20 straight minutes of Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash gameplay footage from this Day 1 E3 2015 Nintendo TreeHouse Live video.

Key Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash Features:

* Climb, jump, run and throw your plug and cord in this all-new platforming game.

* Whip enemies and ricochet your plug and cord off of walls to solve puzzles.

* Tons of collectibles.

* Tap the new Chibi-Robo amiibo figure to power up Chibi-Robo into “Super Chibi Robo” or use a Toy Capsule Machine to unlock the in-game Collectible Figures.

I love me a good action platformer and this game definitely fits the bill.

While it does not seem to be much to look at, especially at first glance, and doesn’t necessarily seem to be that iconic or memorable; it still looks hella fun!

It does look like Chibi Robo: Zip Lash will be full of awesome side-scrolling gameplay. I love how, during one of the Treehouse Live videos, you can see Chibi-Robo become a lil Moses, as he throws his whip INTO THE BACKGROUND, and activates a secret wherein the waters part, allowing Chibi-Robo to walk across dry land to the island in the background!

Cool stuff.

Granted, this game isn’t on the AAA scale that a lot of people expect from Nintendo, but neither have the previous games which include the GameCube original from 2005 (simply titled “Chibi-Robo!”), a DS sequel in 2007 called “Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol“, a 2009 DS Japan-only sequel (“Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! Happy Richie Osoji!”) and 2013’s Chibi-Robo: Photo Finder for 3DS eShop, which uses Augmented Reality thanks to the 3DS camera.

While the original game was highly-praised, its sequels have been less so and Chibi-Robo has remained a pretty obscure Nintendo series.

Maybe this one will get more people into it, since Chibi-Robo does make an excellent action hero as we can see from gameplay footage of Zip-Line. And of course, everyone will be hunting down that Chibi-Robo Amiibo!

Do you think Chibi-Robo: Zip Line looks like a game you’ll pick up this October?
