Rock Band 4 VS Guitar Hero Live Comparison

Rock Band 4 and Guitar Hero Live both mean to revive the music game genre when they come out late this year. You’ll need to get the old band back together ready for rocking out on one or both of the new titles.

To compare and contrast Rock Band 4 & Guitar Hero Live:

• Rock Band 4 will have guitars, drums and vocals, while Guitar Hero Live has realised what its name implies and so focuses on just the guitar. So if you want to sing or play drums, deciding between the two is a cinch.

• For its renewed focus on the king of instruments, Guitar Hero Live has redesigned its guitar controller. Now instead of five buttons on the peripheral’s neck you have six, with two buttons on each fret. Rock Band meanwhile keeps its controllers much the same, to the point where you can use your old instruments via an adapter.

• Speaking of backwards compatibility, the ability to play downloadable content purchased for earlier games will be of interest to former Guitar Heroes and Rock Banders who invested their fortunes in DLC tracks by any of your favorite musicians. Rock Band 4 wins it in this category, since it has backwards compatibility and Guitar Hero Live has none.

On the face of it, Rock Band’s safer sequel is positioned to capitalize on the nostalgia for the recent past that being a millennial is all about, but Guitar Hero Live could be the vigorous shake-up the genre needed. Let’s just hope they don’t burn us out on yearly music games this time around.
