Yooka-Laylee Release Date

Now that Banjo-Kazooie’s spiritual sequel Yooka-Laylee has been fully funded via their Kickstarter to include an orchestral score, you might be wondering what the Yooka-Laylee release date is? The game launches in October 2016, the developers have revealed on the Kickstarter’s Q&A page!

Yooka-Laylee will be released for Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U. However, the exact release timing and scope of each version will be determined at a later date. But the goal is to do “a simultaneous, day-one release on all platforms.”

To quote the Kickstarter’s Q&A page:

• How long have you been working on Yooka-Laylee and when will it release?

“The game footage you see today is the result of less than three months’ work. The conceptual phase for Yooka-Laylee began much earlier in December 2014, but we didn’t actually start building the game until February.

If our Kickstarter is a success, we plan to release the game on at least some platforms by October 2016. Dependent on the success of this Kickstarter, we could release on all platforms simultaneously.”

It’s safe to say the UK-based ex-Rare staff members’ Kickstarter has been very successful so far… Considering they just passed their £1,500,000 milestone for an orchestral score, that means up next is the £2,000,000 stretch goal that makes all future DLC content free for Kickstarter backers!
