Prologue: Swallows Nest & Level 1: Sunken Glades

Welcome to the Ori and the Blind Forest walkthrough!

Rangris will be your guide in this ‘No Deaths’ walkthrough, that shows you around the game’s levels perfectly.

Let’s begin with Ori and The Blind Forest’s Prologue, which introduces the first 10 minutes the game in “Swallows Nest”.

At 10:00 minutes in, after a Soul Link revival, Ori continues his adventure in the first level; Starting out in the “Sunken Glades” area. – It is here (at 22:22 minutes in) that you’ll find an Ancestral Tree that will teach you how to wall-jump.

Game Saves Tip: You have the ability to set a save checkpoint nearly anywhere in the level using a Soul Flame, by holding down the B button on your controller.

There are still save points throughout the level that automatically serve as checkpoints, but they’re few and far between. The Soul Flame system allows you to celebrate the accomplishment of conquering a particularly challenging puzzle or battle, while ensuring you won’t have to go back and do it all over again the next time you die.

Skill Tree Upgrading Note: After you’ve created a Soul Link, stand near its light and tap the B button to access the Ability Tree to spend any Ability Points you’ve collected in the level(s).

You have three routes to choose between with the Ability Tree: The bottom route gives you Offensive Skills, then there’s the top route that gives you Defensive Skills, and the middle route provides you with Facilitative Skills like a super handy double jump.

Level 2: Hollow Grove

We find out it was the Spirit Tree who sustained the three Elements of Light, and in turn they brought balance and kept the land of Nibel safe. Until the bird Kuro stole the Spirit Tree’s light.

Now Ori must go and find three lights to return Nibel to its former self:
• 1. The Element of Waters, high atop the Ginso Tree;
• 2. The Element of Winds, deep within the Forlorn Ruins;
• 3. The Element of Warmth, beneath the fires of Mount Horu.

The first light we will find in the “Hollow Grove” beyond the “Spider Coves”, atop the Ginso Tree where the waters once flowed. To reach it we must first travel through “Thornfelt Swamp” to find the Spirit Tree, as absorbing its light will teach you Charge Flame.

Backtracking Tip: After crossing the purple waters of the “Hollow Grove”, you’ll keep walking right to find a closed door (at 9:10 minutes into the video). You’ll later in the game be able to open that door. It unlocks as follows: By flipping a switch in that trunk, you have to jump on a blue flower to get inside. You’ll need a Stomp Ability which you will get later in the game.

Level 3: Moon Grotto

In the Ginso Tree section of the game we’ll be taking a ‘scenic tour’ of the “Moon Grotto” area.

After getting through the “Thornfelt Swamp” we follow a Gumon consumed by darkness and fear, who’s stolen a light ball into “Gumo’s Hideout” deep in the “Moon Grotto” area. Our objective in this section of the game is to regain the Water Vein.

Part 2 of Level 3: At 2:30 minutes into the video guide we’ll find another Ancestral Tree. This one will teach us double jump! – By the end of this level, you’ll have recovered the Water Vein. This ancient gemstone will give you entrance to the Ginso Tree.

Level 4: Ginso Tree

Ori’s objective in this level is to reach the Element of Waters high atop the Ginso Tree. Enter and restore the Ginso Tree — entrance shown at 5:25 minutes into the video — This is where we use the Water Vein gemstone.

Upon revisiting the “Thornfelt Swamp” area we find and enter the Ginso Tree, only to find out it’s rotten inside. Get ready for a long climb up.

Part 2 of Level 4: After a long climb using the new Bash Attack ability*, you’re shown how to make a watery escape — after a leadup at 5:00 minutes it starts at 8:30 minutes in — without dying in the Ginso Tree level’s ending sequence. – Ori must run for his life from water in order to cleanse the Ginso Tree’s Heart and reach the top.

Note: As impossible as the Ginso Tree climbing section may seem, please keep trying. You CAN do it in due time! Just practice, practice, practice! As you can see from the video guide, you may eventually get so good you won’t even die. But you’ll definitely need to be playing patiently with an Xbox controller to get past the Ginso Tree water escape section.

* General Tips: Game director Thomas Mahler & company will show you around the Ginso Tree section. This includes tips on how to best use the new redirect projectiles move (called the Bash Attack) for which you have to hold the Y button near a projectile and aim it away to reflect the shot at your target.

Good job obtaining the first light, the Element of Waters!
