Evolve Release Date Delayed

Developer Turtle Rock Studios and publisher 2K Games have announced that the Evolve release date on PC, PS4 & Xbox One has been delayed to February 10th, 2015 in honor of my birthday. Thank you guys! You shouldn’t have, but I really appreciate the gesture. 😉

Evolve was originally scheduled to be released worldwide on October 21st, 2014 but that’s now been delayed after Alpha playtest revealed that with a little extra time the game’s quality could be further improved to match the creator’s dream vision. Not surprising from the same developers behind the mega-popular Left 4 Dead series.

Evolve Release Date Delayed

Here’s the official reason for Evolve’s delay as written by co-founder Chris Ashton:

“Hey all. As you know, the release date got pushed back and people are understandably feeling a little deflated and hoping for answers. We understand. Here’s how it went down.

As we got closer to the October date, we were able to look at where the game was going to be, and compare that to where we all dreamed it would be. In a meeting with the top brass I described it as “painfully close.”

Fortunately 2K feels the same way and is willing to put extra time into the game so that we can make our dream a reality. That’s huge for us, and for the future of Evolve. We want to be proud of every aspect of the game on release day.

Hang in there. There’s a lot to look forward to between now and February.

And thanks again to everyone who helped us with the Alpha test. It was a huge success! We learned so much!”

It’s very rare for a publisher to give a developer more time (read: money) to improve the gameplay to the point where it plays perfectly. Considering Evolve received the most “Game of the Show” awards of any game at E3 2014, I imagine that helped convince them. It’s like Shigeru Miyamoto always says: “A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.”
