Uncharted Movie Release Date Announced

An Uncharted Movie release date has been confirmed for Summer 2016! …

We already knew that Mark Wahlberg stars as Nathan Drake in Uncharted the movie (though that’s no longer the case), and we wondered aloud whether Scarlett Johansson will play Elena Fisher in Uncharted the Movie (uncomfirmed), lastly we learned that the Uncharted movie will be directed by David O Russel (no longer).

Now however we have new and updated information, along with the first very solid bit of true information regarding the Uncharted feature film.

It has been officially announced by Sony Pictures that The Uncharted Movie will hit theaters on June 10th, 2016! It will also reportedly be directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, Identity Thief).

If you loved the Indiana Jones films, this surely may be the next-best thing to seeing them realized on the big screen.

Watch the first “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” game as a movie with all cutscenes in a row:

Sadly Mark Wahlberg will no longer be playing Nathan Drake, as he bowed out along with previously-attached director David O. Russell. Neil Burger was also briefly attached to direct but will be replaced by, presumably, Seth Gordon or someone else.

However Seth Gordon sounds like it may be more of a lock.

Seth has stated that he loves the complexity and “frankly the sophistication of the storytelling” in the Uncharted series, but added, “I feel like the people who play the games and know them well don’t want to just see the same story told. You want extra shades.”

I’m very excited to see that the Uncharted film is getting serious ground from Sony and now that a release date is locked, actual decisions will began to be made soon on the feature film.
