Doom 2015 Teaser Trailer

Doom 2015 was officially revealed with the first gameplay shown at QuakeCon 2014. Doom 4, as it was previously known, is now simply called “Doom”.

Here is the Doom 2015 Teaser Trailer.

This next-generation of Doom was shown-off via an exclusive gameplay video at Quakecon 2014, but was only shown to those physically in attendance. Media and fans got to see it, but the online stream of the event cut-out just before the actual footage was shown.

Here’s what we know about Doom 2015 so far:

* The ability to double-jump via a jetpack has been added, just like in every other modern FPS from Titanfall to Destiny.
* Mortal Kombat-style gruesome finishing moves can be performed on enemies with low health. These include extremely realistic, gory finishers such as crushing skulls, pulling out beating hearts, pulling off lower jaws and crushing heads, among others.
* You can literally pull off an enemies arms and use them as bludgeon bats!
* Enemies quite literally break apart into crumbs, like a piece of cornbread, as they are attacked. Chunks of skin, muscle, tissue and bone fly in all directions and enemies can literally be split open or sliced in half in gory next-gen detail.
* Verticality has been added like in a lot of modern FPS games, as players can quickly climb up large crates or run across gaps.
* Regenerating health like in a lot of modern FPS’ games is not in the plans for Doom.
* Every weapon can now be carried at once.
* The setting is Mars at a UAC research facility, story details however are scarce.
* The game is running on the new idTech 6 engine (idTech 4 is what powered Doom 3).
* Doom 2015, aka Doom 4 as everyone will still call it, has been in development for over six years and has been completely rebooted at least once.
* The developers say the game is still super early, too early to publicly show off, but they wanted to show something to tease the world, prove that they are hard at work on the game, and that it is a reality and is even playable. It could even get delayed to 2016. Time will tell.
* No member of the original Doom team at id is working on this newest Doom, the last to leave of which was John Carmack, who is now working on VR stuff for Oculus Rift (owned by Facebook).
* Doom 2015 will run in full 1080p at 60 frames per second, promise the developers.
* Doom 2015 has been targeted for Xbox One, PS4 and PC platforms.

It’s exciting to see Doom finally get a next-generation reboot, and I can only imagine how scary the game will be with current-gen graphics. It also sounds like the game is a ways off, and the developers have stated that we won’t see it again, or the first official footage, for a long time.

Are you excited about re-entering the world of Doom?
