Battleborn Announced for PS4, Xbox One & PC. From Borderlands Creators

Battleborn is the name of the next project from Gearbox, creators of Borderlands, which will be published by 2K Games and will hit Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in fiscal year 2016.

Check out the reveal teaser trailer for Battleborn:

Battleborn intends to mix MOBA-style elements with first-person shooters and RPG elements to create a “first-person battle arena” game, and it is an all-new IP for the developer, who intends to turn Battleborn into the Borderlands of the next-generation.

The game will include both a co-op single-player campaign and a multitude of online multiplayer options. One revealed mode called Incursion is a 5 vs 5 fast-paced FPS battle that includes strategic team-based elements as seen in games like DOTA 2 and League of Legends.

Lots of unlockable heroes will be available in the game, all stylized in that unique Gearbox method with the humor of Borderlands to match. Not only will each character have a unique physical look, but they will also control completely differently.

So the female huntress you see in the trailer above will control as you’d expect an elf too, whereas the giant dude with the chain gun will feel like a hulk. Essentially Gearbox wanted to fulfill those fantasies of every player who’s ever wanted to pit any kind of gaming character archetype against each other in a MOBA FPS and made it a reality.

I definitely will have to wait to see gameplay footage, as that trailer above was absolutely horrible and did zilch to make me interested. Very tired characters with absolutely no personality and stereotypical fantasy setting that has begun to bore me to tears… Hopefully the actual game is a lot more exciting. Which it sounds like it will be based on what I’ve read. Even though I personally have no interested in MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games.

Are you excited for a new IP from Borderlands developer Gearbox? Do you think Battleborn will hit the heights of the insanely popular Borderlands franchise?
