Ori and the Blind Forest Announced for Xbox One & PC. Metroidvania Gameplay in E3 2014 Trailers

Ori and the Blind Forest was announced & revealed at Microsoft’s E3 2014 Press Conference where the world got their first look at this touching, heartfelt, beautiful Indie game in development for Xbox One (Xbox Live Arcade) and PC by developer Moon Studios.

Check out the reveal E3 2014 trailer for Ori & the Blind Forest.

In Ori & the Blind Forest players take control of the titular Ori in a side-scrolling action adventure Metroidvania game with a focus on puzzle-solving, where you control a “White Guardian Spirit” who is on a quest in a mysterious forest to recover his mentor.

Along the way he teams up with the bear-like creature known as “Sein”, who helps him make his way through the world with the ability to attack enemies and help in solving puzzles.

As you solve puzzles in the game’s environment, as seen in the trailer, you’ll unlock new abilities that will help you further uncover the mysteries of the titular “Blind Forest”.

This gameplay video shows off some more gameplay and puzzle-solving for Ori & the Blind Forest!

Ori & the Blind Forest uses a unique saving mechanism. Similar to games of yesteryear, like say Resident Evil’s Ink Ribbon’s, you can only save by using “Soul Links” that you’ve collected. The amount of Soul Links found in the game is limited, so players have to use them strategically to make it through their quest.

The developers at “Moon Studios” promise that Ori & the Blind Forest is a love-letter to classic action adventure platform titles like the Metroid and Rayman games, and the developers created the game over a period of four years exclusively working online. They don’t even have an office, and they are spread out from Israel to Australia to the U.S. to Austria! Very cool.

Here is more on Ori & the Blind Forest with one of the game’s developers.

This game, along with “Inside” and “No Man’s Sky”, were my favorite games of the show, all three Indie titles.

Ori And the Blind Forest is such a beautiful, breathtaking game with absolutely gorgeous artwork and graphics, and the developers have pulled off the rare feat of conveying intense emotion between the Bear and Cub by way of both the movie-style animation and atmospheric graphical style and effects that is really second to none! It really has to be seen to be believed. Once you see Ori in motion, you’ll understand.

Can’t wait to play this title! It will be released in the third quarter of 2014.
