New Wii U Zelda 2015 Trailer Reveal. Zelda Skyrim From E3 2014

Zelda Skyrim! The Legend of Zelda 2015 exclusively for Wii U is the next core title in Nintendo’s epic Action Adventure franchise, and it has been completely re-imagined and re-built from the ground up to take advantage of the graphical power of the Wii U!

And believe me, if you thought the Wii U was not a “next-generation” console, wait until you see this game in action!

The Legend of Zelda 2015 (temporary title) takes the series into open-world, Skyrim-style, sprawling environments where the sandbox of Hyrule lay completely at your fingertips!

Unlike previous Zelda games, the major change in this title is the ability to access the entire world of the game at anytime and go anywhere you can physically set your eyes on. Naturally, this changes the formula of past Zelda games as you can now enter dungeons, or access them, at any point in the game (access is not the same as finishing though, remember).

The other big change is the fact that the “peaceful land of Hyrule” can be literally destroyed by evil enemies who can demolish parts of the scenery. This is displayed in the trailer as a giant beast flies into Link’s view and destroys a bridge Link is about to cross on Epona. Very cool!

Even with the ability to access anywhere in Hyrule, the progressive nature of Zelda, where new areas are open to you only as you gain new Weapons & Abilities, will surely remain intact.

What has changed is the freedom of choice players will have on where to go and where to explore. See those mountains in the distance? You can ride there, naturally on Link’s loyal steed Epona, and any point in the world that you can see with your physical eyes, can be explored!

This means that, for the first time, Nintendo has truly taken one of their franchises into the current-generation of game mechanics, as open-world fantasy titles like Skyrim or Dragon Age are all-the-rage.
Previously the more linear nature of Zelda games went against this grain of the rest of the industry, even though they’ve always been open-ended to an extent. This move by Nintendo puts them more in direct line with their competitors and is an exciting direction to see the Zelda franchise move in.

Additionally, instead of going with a cell-shaded or realistic art-style, this game has an amazing, stylish, animated – almost anime or full cartoon – look to it that’s somewhere between Skyward Sword and Wind Waker but on a much higher-calibur, high-definition standard! The chibi nature is gone, it looks more realistic, but retains a stylistic look that compliments it extremely well and still makes it animated. It looks absolutely gorgeous!

Not much is known about this title, and it’s set for 2015, so we’ll have to wait a while to see more of it in action. But enjoy the E3 2014 Nintendo Direct reveal of Zelda 2015 in the video above!
