Telltale Games and HBO Global Licensing announced a partnership to create an interactive episodic game series based on Game of Thrones, with a tentative Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series release date of December 2014! The first episode of the game series is expected to arrive in the first week, if the second season launch date of last year’s The Walking Dead game series is any indication.
Here are the official Episode 1 release dates for all platforms:
• Tuesday, December 2 – PC/Mac worldwide, PlayStation 3 & 4 in North America. (PS3 versions may get delayed until December 9)
• Wednesday, December 3 – Xbox 360 & Xbox One worldwide, PlayStation 3 & 4 in Europe.
• Thursday, December 4 – Apple iOS devices worldwide.
• Near-Future – PS Vita & other Mobile versions will be confirmed later.
Based on the critically-acclaimed and Emmy Award-winning epic drama Game of Thrones; The multi-year, multi-title partnership between Telltale and HBO Global Licensing is targeted to premiere digitally in 2014 with an episodic game series for home consoles, PC/Mac, and mobile devices. Specific platform details are yet to be announced, but the console launch will at the very least include: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 & PlayStation Vita, much like Telltale’s other current episodic series. (But hopefully Xbox One, PlayStation 4 & Wii U as well.)
Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series Release Date
Here’s the Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series teaser:
Important Fact: The game is not a prequel and will take place at the same time as the TV series. Details are slim, but in the single-player graphic adventure you’ll be able to explore other parts of Westeros, while the war for the Iron Throne rages on elsewhere. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be waging war yourself, it’s a huge world after all, and there will be large battles!
To quote Dan Connors, co-founder and CEO of Telltale Games: “Since the very beginning, Telltale’s goal has been to work alongside the most talented and respected forces in entertainment, bringing their worlds to the interactive space as no other game studio can. Working with HBO to develop a new game series based on Game of Thrones is a natural fit for our studio. This partnership will create an experience that will captivate the huge, global Game of Thrones audience. It will put them in control of the epic stories of warfare, intrigue, violence and revenge that we know and love.”
He added: “We’re just really getting into it right now and thinking about the right characters, and who has the most at stake, and who has the most to do, and who has the biggest impact on the world. ‘Cause, you know, we’re so much about consequence, and Game of Thrones is so much about big consequence.”
To quote Josh Goodstadt, Director of HBO Global Licensing: “We’re delighted to be working with Telltale Games, a proven leader in the creation of engaging interactive content. Our fans are always looking for new, exciting ways to engage with the Game of Thrones brand and this game series will put them right in the middle of the action by letting them decide where the story will lead. This brings a whole new dimension to the world of Westeros.”
Based on the bestselling fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones is an epic story where political and sexual intrigue abound as seven noble families fight for control of the Iron Throne and the Seven Kingdoms.
So this game is definitely going to be rated M for Mature audiences only.
