Titanfall: How To Hack A Spectre

Welcome to the “Titanfall: How To Hack A Spectre” guide. Find out how to turn Spectres into your Minions!

Spectre Description: “Defense contractor subsidiaries of the IMC developed the Spectre — a robotic anthropomorphic combat system derived from the MRVN project. The Spectre is officially classified in IMC manifests as a form of Automated Infantry. Their main use is urban pacification and occupation. Due to the corporate and military politics that plagued their development, Spectres inherited a data port vulnerability from their Marvin predecessors. When a Pilot reprograms a Spectre, the Spectre immediately begins to seek out and engage friendly combatants, both human and artificial, with extreme prejudice.”

Data Knife Description: “This is a special knife designed to infiltrate and reprogram enemy computer systems by plugging into a data port. A circular, backlit screen in the handle indicates progress. The “business end” of the device is a plug that works with many different types of hardware ports like a skeleton key. When used against Marvins and Spectres, the Data Knife will reprogram the robot to fight on the attacker’s side. It also works as a knife.”

Titanfall: How To Hack A Spectre

Spectre Hacking Method #1:

An enemy Spectre is hacked by walking up behind it, and then holding X once you see the on-screen prompt to use your Data Knife. Any Pilot is able to do this, and after a few seconds the enemy Spectre will become friendly.

Tip: The best way to sneak up on a Spectre from behind is by turning on your Camo, so you’re invisible to the Spectre until it’s too late for it and you’re already hacking it.

Bonus: Doing this a total of 20 times will unlock the “My Robo Army” achievement at the end of a match. You can track your progress towards how many Spectres you’ve turned into your Minions — that goes towards the Achievement for hacking 20 Spectres — in the Personal Stats menu under Misc.

Spectre Hacking Method #2:

You can also wait until you reach Pilot Level 43 to unlock “The ‘Icepick'” which is a Tier 2 Kit that gives you a modified Data Knife, which in turn allows for increased speed when hacking Spectres, as well as turret control panels. This isn’t necessary, but it makes hacking as well as getting the “My Robo Army” achievement for 20 Spectre hacks a little faster.

Tip: It is also recommend that you use the Minion Detector Tier 1 Kit (for Pilots) to easily see enemy AI on your minimap. Lastly, don’t forget about your Burn Cards. Some will offer automatic hacking, or make enemy AI ignore you, these can make your life much easier.

Spectre Hacking Method #3:

Between reaching Pilot Level 7-11 you can begin to equip 1-3 Burn Cards at a time. You will randomly receive Burn Cards from playing matches and completing challenges. What you’re looking for is the “WiFi Virus” Burn Card perk, which is described as “Automatically capture nearby enemy Spectres.” Select the “WiFi Virus” Burn Card(s) before a match and it will last you one Pilot life. It’s a great way to quickly hack lots of Spectres as you play, without having to use your Data Knife to hack them manually.

Note: When manually hacking a Spectre within a group of Spectres, the game will sometimes automatically hack all the close proximity Spectres for you as well, turning them into your Minions all at once. However, do note that the game will not count all the converted Spectres towards the “My Robo Army” achievement, only the one you converted to your side by hand.
