“BY JOVE, I’VE GOT IT”
Thanks to Professor Layton’s passion for puzzles, you’ll be spending much of your time during his adventure solving all kinds of riddles and brainteasers. Some you’ll receive as the story progresses, while others will be hidden away for you to discover for yourself, and yet more can be earned as bonuses for completing minigames. Can you solve them all?
“NO STONE LEFT UNTURNED”
In order to unearth the true secrets of the Azran legacy, you’ll have to use Investigation mode to move around and explore your surroundings. Guide the magnifying glass with your stylus and use it to search every location, then zoom in when the lens turns blue and look for hidden secrets. And when you’re ready to move on, tap the map on the Touch Screen to continue the journey!
“PUZZLES MEAN PICARATS”
Every puzzle that Layton is challenged with comes with a valuable prize: Picarats. The harder the puzzle is, the more Picarats it’s worth, and only those who can earn enough of them will discover the hidden rewards. But watch out! Get an answer wrong and the amount of Picarats you can earn from a puzzle goes down – be sure to think about your response before you give it!
“PROFESSOR, A COIN!”
As you’re investigating the many locations of Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, you may find hint coins hidden in the strangest places. Look for your magnifying glass turning orange as you scour each scene, then tap to find one! Hint coins can be used to purchase puzzle hints, which will give you additional help in finding the solution without risking a costly incorrect answer.
“TAKE NOTE, LUKE!”
Need to show your workings during a particularly tricky conundrum, or just fancy puzzling things out in writing? Then use the handy Memo function available during any puzzle – just pull down a layer that you can scribble notes on, then doodle away. It’s the perfect thing for those who like to think everything through before they commit to a final answer!
“A GENTLEMAN’S GAME”
At various points during the story, you’ll unlock a selection of minigames that each offer their own unique challenges – designing the perfect outfit for fashionable customers, helping a squirrel collect nuts for the winter and making flowers bloom in a garden while avoiding poisonous mushrooms. The further through the adventure you get, the more content you’ll earn for each minigame, while bonuses await for those who can complete them all!
Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy Hints and Tips
• LET THE STREETPASS TREASURE HUNT BEGIN!
On top of all the new puzzles and mental challenges that Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy offers, there’s a special bonus for those who want to enjoy Layton’s latest adventure with their friends – a StreetPass treasure hunt!
Throughout the game, you’ll be able to find numerous unique items scattered about. Each item you discover will be added to a special list found inside the professor’s trunk. By selecting up to three items from your list, you can issue challenges that are then sent via StreetPass to other Layton players. Plus, you can receive challenges from others as well in the same way.
Not only is searching for items fun, but it’s rewarding too – find all the items in a challenge and you’ll earn points, with harder-to-spot items being worth more. Better yet, you can rank challenges on how fun they are; if a challenge you’ve sent is given enough ‘Great!’ marks, you’ll earn even more points! Spend points in a bespoke shop and unlock some very special rewards!
• A PUZZLE A DAY…
There are heaps of puzzles waiting for you in Professor Layton’s Azran adventure, but it doesn’t end there! You can also access new puzzles every day for a full year via Nintendo Network, starting at launch. With 385 Daily Puzzles to try your hand at, the challenges just keep on coming! Bonus puzzles are just for fun, so won’t contribute to your Picarat score.
Note that Daily Puzzles will still be downloadable after the distribution end date.
• LAYTON’S CHALLENGES
Do you fancy yourself as a puzzle master? Then it’s time to up the ante with some extra-tough puzzles that Professor Layton has provided. Layton’s Challenges can be unlocked after meeting certain requirements during the game and, believe us, these brainteasers are a step above the normal run-of-the-mill conundrum. Give them a go if you’re brave enough!
• TOP SECRET
As if all this wasn’t enough, there are some other goodies to unlock after you’ve finished the game. This exclusive content will depend on your Picarat total, so try your hardest to get a titanic total. You can also use a special password from Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask to unlock even more content! What content? Well… that’s Top Secret of course!

Three brand new minigames can be unlocked within Professor Layton’s trustworthy trunk, each offering its own unique style of puzzle solving. Discover new content for each one by playing through the story and unlock bonuses by completing the lot!
1. DRESS UP: Help each customer find the perfect outfit – the better dressed they are, the more stars you’ll earn for your creation!
2. NUT ROLLER: Plan ahead and guide the squirrel’s prized nuts into the hole, avoiding all the obstacles as you go!
3. BLOOMS & SHROOMS: Create a beautiful garden by planting flowers to make all the trees bloom – just watch out for those poisonous mushrooms!
