The Phantom Pain has been announced at SpikeTV’s Video Game Awards 2012. But as you’ll soon discover, it may very well have been a clever ruse to unveil… Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain!
If it’s the World Premiere trailer of “The Phantom Pain”, as GT TV claims, then that would mean this isn’t the curren-gen “Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes” that was announced back in August, but another next-gen Metal Gear Solid title!
Although to be fair, both games seem to be running Kojima Productions/Konami’s same FOX Engine, which allows for ultra-realistic clothing textures, animation, and light reflection. Series creator Hideo Kojima has said that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is a “Prologue” to “Metal Gear Solid 5“.
The announcer said the teaser trailer that starts at 10:30 minutes is “100% gameplay”! The armless protagonist does looks a lot like Big Boss/Solid Snake!
The friend who’s helping you escape the hospital sounds like he’s being voiced by 24-star Kiefer Sutherland!
“New” Swedish developer Moby Dick Studios is shown in the above trailer as being the ones making the game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This is likely a fake viral marketing website Konami setup, since the Moby Dick Studios company has no history, a newly registered domain, and there are apparently zero people working there.
The biggest clue yet that this is Metal Gear Solid 5, is that if during the end title you freeze the video during the lensflare flash — and look at the black letters right above the white “The Phantom Pain” letters — it then reveals the name as: “Metal Gear Solid V”!!
Sorry about the overdose of exclamation marks, I’m just really excited.
