HAHAHAHA FUNNY STORY. I totally thought this was legitimate information and started a completely new file, and completely beat it. I was missing two exits in this one, which I found. This got me five stars, shining quite well, and I never used the guide block. In my previous file I used the guide block ONCE, out of curiosity, but did not skip the level nor even let Luigi finish with his slow a** self. I completed this old file by finding the missed exits. This granted me five stars as well, equally shiny it appeared. The ONE difference was that I was not solicited to post a comment on miiverse regarding the matter. I suppose this also entailed that no news of my victory would appear on other players' maps, in the usual "victory hill" near Peach's castle. Ah, well, it was a good game I guess. Sorry for the long comment, it's for anal people like me.

Nah, it's 94 flags :-) I thought that the number on the savegame indicated how many percent of the game have been completed. But actually it counts the flagpoles, and there are 94 of those (82 normal exits, 12 secret exits). I completed the game to 100%. You know that you completed 100% once you got 5 stars on your savegame file :-)

Ah ok, I just watched the video. Apparently the difference is that when you never use the super guide, all 5 stars will be "shining". Not sure what that means, though? Mine look exactly as in the video, shining once every second or so. Could they shine even more if I hadn't activated the super guide? ;-) ...I never actually used the super guide to help me beat any level (as I explained), I only watched Luigi for fun a few times.

I absolutely agree with you. I just got my 5 stars although I did use the green help blocks 2 or 3 times, so the above quote is definitely incorrect.

Note that when you let Luigi complete a level, the game will ask you whether you want to skip that level or try it again yourself. I always chose to try again myself, i.e. I never skipped a level. Possibly, you cannot get 5 stars if you let Luigi complete a level for you? Similarly, I never even let Luigi do the beginning of a level for me, taking over after a while to complete the level "by myself" (I always killed the super guide on purpose whenever I took over for him).

However, my awesome shiny 5-star savegame does not show "100%" but only "94%". Is this normal, or could this have to do with me having activated the super guide a few times? I can't see anything that I didn't do (I completed all levels, found all 12 secret exits, got all stars coins, completed the "Follow that Shell" level with all 3 star coins, caught Nabbit everywhere etc). I see that on the title screen of the above video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=49GMg2pqJy0), there are also only 94%, which leads me to believe that this is normal. Right?

"Warning: To get the 5 shiny & sparkling stars on your save file, do NOT use Assist Blocks. They appear after you lose a few lives in a level, and it’s ok if they appear, as long you don’t activate them. Say NO to Luigi helping you if you accidentally do hit the green block and you’ll be fine."

I don't think this is correct. I got five shiny stars despite using a green block a couple times.
