Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Announced

At today’s Metal Gear 25th Anniversary Event in Japan, Konami announced the official title for Project Ogre AKA Metal Gear Solid 5 is Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes! Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima came on stage to show off the open world stealth game’s demo running on PC. Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and next-generation platforms (presumably Xbox 720, PlayStation 4 and Wii U?).

The Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes demo began with a real-time cutscene, and transferred into gameplay showing an open world environment during a rainy night at a Marine base. Snake was seen crawling around the base compound while avoiding search lights, stealthily killing a guard, driving a jeep, and then burning flares to call for a helicopter evacuation. Attending press called the scale and atmosphere of the presentation “Truely amazing!”

Update: Here’s the Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gameplay demo! Kojima also confirmed via his Twitter that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is a Prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5!

The game uses the new FOX Engine for ultra-realistic clothing textures, animation, and light reflection.

The best news out of the event was that Konami said completion of the game’s development would “not be so much to keep you waiting.” 🙂
