Genesect Pokemon Officially Revealed by Nintendo

The final numbered Pokemon (#649) in the National Pokedex, called Genesect, will be appearing in Pokemon Black and White 2 in Japan; where the pair of games are already released on Nintendo DS. A Level 50 Genesect will be the free giveaway during a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection event that runs from August 11th until September 14th, 2012 in Japan. So until other regions in the world do the same thing, you’ll only be able download Genesect via an international trade.

The above artwork was drawn by developer Game Freak’s Pokemon art director Ken Sugimori, who has been the character designer for all Pokemon characters since the very first games came out in 1996.

It’s revealed in the August 2012 issue of the Japanese CoroCoro magazine that Genesect is a Bug/Steel dual-type (Paleozoic) Legendary Pokemon, and was the last Pokemon still a secret in Pokemon Black and White 2. Its backstory is that “Genesect was revived from a Fossil and technologically enhanced by Team Plasma to create the most powerful Pokémon ever. N had the project cancelled and the P2 Laboratory closed because he felt that Pokémon, who he thought to be perfect beings, would lose their beauty if modified by science. However, Scientist Dudley kept working on it, angry that N denied his talent. This scientist reconstructed Genesect and installed the cannon on its back.” Does that make it a cyborg? 😀

According to Bulbagarden, Genesect doesn’t evolve. Instead, it (because it’s genderless) can change into 5 out of the 17 types though the Drive inserted in the cannon on its back, so it can always have the advantage in battle.

Here’s how Genesect changes types:

• When it is not holding any Drive, the light is orange, and Techno Blast is Normal-type.
• When it is holding the Burn Drive, the light turns red, and Techno Blast is Fire-type.
• When it is holding the Douse Drive, the light turns blue, and Techno Blast is Water-type.
• When it is holding the Shock Drive, the light turns yellow, and Techno Blast is Electric-type.
• When it is holding the Chill Drive, the light turns white, and Techno Blast is Ice-type.
