Ubisoft has announced Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation exclusively for the PlayStation Vita at E3 2012. It’s bringing the full Assassin’s Creed experience to a handheld device for the second time after Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines on PSP. Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation will be released on October 30th, 2012, the same day as Assassin’s Creed III comes to consoles and PC. Get ready for a true Assassin’s Creed experience with all the usual combat, free-roaming navigation and a rich story full of intrigue and twists, on the PS Vita system.

The BIG NEWS for Assassin’s Creed fans is of course that Liberation will be the first game in the series to star a female lead! The series’ first female protagonist is named Aveline, she’s of French-African descent, another first in the series. A woman of conviction, Aveline is fighting for freedom in 18th-century New Orleans – a city on the brink of a rebellion as the Spanish Empire imposes its new rule.

Both campaign and multiplayer gameplay on PS Vita:

Assassin’s Creed III Liberation also features PS Vita-specific controls, making the most of the system’s touchscreen and rear touch pad, cameras and gyroscope. These include distinctive combat, character interaction, deciphering and traversal controls – all delivering an immersive handheld Assassin’s Creed experience. Assassin’s Creed III Liberation will also bring a unique multiplayer experience to the series exclusively tailored for the PS Vita system.

Liberation’s storyline:

The year is 1765. As the events leading up to the American Revolution heat up in the north, Spanish forces plan to take control of Louisiana in the south – but they have yet to reckon with Aveline, a deadly Assassin who will use every weapon and ability in her arsenal to win freedom for her land and her people. Whether silently eliminating her enemies with slow-motion chain kills or luring them into deadly traps, Aveline strikes mortal fear into the hearts of those who stand in her way.

As an Assassin, Aveline soon finds herself on an unforgettable journey that will take her from the crowded streets of New Orleans to voodoo-haunted swamps and ancient Mayan ruins. She will play a pivotal role in the turbulent birth of a new nation as she fights for freedom, not only for herself, but for her fellow citizens.
