Microsoft/Xbox has taken steps this year to strengthen their brand power. They have been focusing on exclusive titles and remaining fiscally conservative while competitors invested a lot of money in their handheld devices. It was a blow to Nintendo to have to reduce their 3DS price right out of the gate. The Vita hasn’t had very strong sales due to the high price. Nintendo and Sony don’t just have to compete with each other and Microsoft, they have Apple to contend with as well. Microsoft played it safe with the Windows Phone instead of a handheld console, directly competing with the iPhone. I think Nintendo has the right plan, to look for ways to boost game sales by lowering the prices of the consoles.

I couldn’t agree more with you Laura! Good show this episode, been a while since I watched! I do agree with Mickael486 that people forget the hidden costs associated with the Xbox 360, but that doesn’t make it any less of a great machine.

Wow I didn’t know anything about that Beyonce story. I think its ironic that Nintendo FINALLY is announcing that they’re lowering the price of the DSi XL and DSi. I just went to Toys R Us a few days ago and was shocked that they were still priced so high. The XL was like $160, basically the same price of the 3DS, which was OUTRAGEOUS. I couldn’t believe it. $120 is quite a bit as well, but its a major change for the better. I still think all three systems should be under $100 though. I agree with you. DS Lite should be $50, DSi should be $70 and DSi XL should be $100 or something like that. – Josh aka astrotriforce
