New Super Mario Bros 2 Release Date Announced

Nintendo has officially confirmed the New Super Mario Bros. 2 release date will fall on Sunday, August 19th, 2012 in North America, and that same week in Europe, Australia, and Japan as well.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will launch exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS, since it’s the sequel to New Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo DS.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 is the first 3DS game that will be available for sale on the same day, as both a packaged retail game and a full digital download to the SD memory card in your 3DS. Other portable game systems like the PSP and PS Vita already offered this choice, and Nintendo are now saying all their past, present and future 3DS releases will land in the 3DS eShop.

The game is a traditional side-scrolling adventure game featuring Mario, Luigi and other fan-favorite characters from the popular Mario series. The game was created specifically as a pick-up-and-play experience that can be instantly enjoyed by players of all skill levels.

I’m really looking forward to another 2D Mario adventure. So I hope they’ll release it the first week of August, so we can still play it during our summer holiday break.
