Zwei Announced By Shinji Mikami As Pure Survival Horror Game

The creator of the Resident Evil series, Shinji Mikami, has announced Zwei as his next survival horror video game project. It’s in development at his Tango Gameworks studio and will be published by Bethesda Softworks.

As a master of the ‘survival horror’ genre, Shinji Mikami is committed to making a game that is the realization of pure survival horror, an experience which he defines as one that pushes the limits of fear and exhilaration. As the director, he and his team at Tango are committed to attaining this vision.

“A true ‘survival horror’ game is one in which the player confronts and overcomes fear,” says Shinji Mikami, president and creative director for Tango Gameworks. “I’ve found my focus and once again I’m striving for pure survival horror. I am being very hands-on in the development of this game to ensure that the quality is there. Rest assured.”

No release dates or platforms were confirmed at this time.

Resident Evil 4 was the last game in the series that Mikami-san directed for Capcom. Here he is playing the game back in 2004.

I imagine this is very welcome news to Resident Evil fans who felt the survival horror of the original games was lost in the newer action-adventure style games in that series.

How do you feel about Shinji Mikami returning to his roots with Zwei?
