A Playable Metal Sonic is unlockable in Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 if you’ve played Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 on the same system.
How To Unlock Metal Sonic in Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2:
Episode Metal is an exclusive mode available for those of you who own both Sonic 4’s Episode 1 and Episode 2 on the same system. Fans of the original 2D Sonic games will recognize this as a throwback to Sega’s Sonic & Knuckles “Lock-on technology” cartridges. More than just a nostalgic throwback, the unlockable will actually explain what happened between Sonic CD and Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2!
Both Episodes will automatically be detected on your system when you start up Episode 2 and will unlock Episode Metal. In it you’ll be able to play as Metal Sonic (Sonic’s greatest rival) as you race through four exclusive levels (reworked Acts) based on Episode 1’s zones. Take control of Metal Sonic as he rebuilds himself to challenge Sonic once again in Episode 2!

Sonic 4 Episode II, and Episode Metal, will be available on May 16th 2012 for Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 (1200 points), and on May 15 for PlayStation Network ($14.99), PC Digital Download ($14.99), Android Devices, iOS systems, and Windows Mobile Phones.
