Diablo 3 Release Date Revealed?

Blizzard Entertainment has a long history of refusing to set release dates, and Diablo 3 is no different having been delayed from 2011 into “early 2012″. But rumor suggests it may finally be released for PC & Mac on February 1, 2012.

A Best Buy store in America has been spotted carrying a Diablo 3 clock display counting down to a February 1 midnight launch, the Bestbuy.com online shop also shows the same date: “Release Date: 2/1/2012″.

As expected, Blizzard claims to Joystiq the date is not official. In general the company seems more than happy to take as much time as needed to finish a game, and when release dates are requested, they usually answer it’s “when it’s done.”

That said, a new Diablo III: 15th Anniversary “Extended Retrospective” developer diary video includes an interview where Diablo III’s game director Jay Wilson says: “We are almost done with Diablo III, and that’s a fitting celebration of the 15th year anniversary for Diablo.”

February Update: Activision-Blizzard’s financial report states Diablo 3 is currently targeted for a Q2 release, which falls between April-June 2012.

At least 2012 is a definite, but when do you think it’ll be released?

Best Buy may have had a display up that may have simply been correct but then Blizzard moved it again. You can’t have major releases without notifying the people who are selling it when they might expect it. The retailers have to have time to print up sales ads and other advertisements. That being said. I noticed last week that Target.com listed the game as February 7th for sale and Walmart listed the same date. Walmart has since moved the date to say March 31st. No company would move it back a mere week so if it was indeed February 1st it is likely they moved it back a couple of months and real date will be March 31st or April 1st.

According to the FAQ from blizzard the 4 months of play time gotten from the Annual Pass if you buy the Collectors Edition can be used for the 12 months of play time, so by that theory it better be out before July. If its not I know a bunch of people that will be writing complaint letters.
