Steam Hits 5 Million Simultaneous Online Players
Steam, the most popular digital download service for PC and Mac, has breached the 5 million concurrent users barrier after 8 years online! Quite a feat!
That’s over 5 million people logged in and playing video games at the same time at the start of January 2012. Over the Christmas holiday period, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim alone had around a quarter of a million people exploring its virtual world. So it’s no surprise that after the heavy discounts on Steam the past two weeks during the Christmas sale, there’d be a lot more people playing newly bought games.
You can check out the peaks and most played games on the Steam player statistics page.
Here’s the Top 10 games order by today’s online player peaks:
1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – 99,700
2. Team Fortress 2 – 41,258
3. Counter-Strike – 74,412
4. Terraria – 24,437
5. Counter-Strike: Source – 61,550
6. Sid Meier’s Civilization V – 22,693
7. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 – Multiplayer – 64,506
8. Football Manager 2012 – 69,964
9. Dungeon Defenders – 16,242
10. Left 4 Dead 2 – 13,861
