Pokemon Tactics er... Pokemon x Nobunagas Ambition DS Jigglypuff Art

Dynasty Warriors Pokemon? Pokemon Tactics? Pokemon x Nobunaga’s Ambition has been announced for DS as a joint-collaboration between Nintendo and Tecmo Toei… a turn-based tactical strategy RPG that features historically-based characters teamed with Pokemon. Together. Forever.

The game was revealed at the Jump Festa and is a huge surprise. It’s also surprising that the game is for DS and not 3DS.

In the game you’ll take control of an original character, and are given an Eevee as your partner. The game will feature many other partners between soldier and Pokemon.

Here’s the gist:

Like the main Pokemon series, you can select either a male hero or female heroine. They both start with Eevee.
Nobunaga is the main warlord who has Zekrom as his partner.
Oichi is a character who helps you in the game, and is paired with Jigglypuff.
Mitsuhude is a character teamed with Articuno.
Shingen is a character teamed with Groudon.
Kenshin is a character teamed with Mewtwo.

Coro Coro Comics in Japan promised a new Pokemon game reveal in January, which may be this title… We’ll have to wait and see though.

Here is the debut trailer for Pokemon x Nobunaga’s Ambition.

Now this is a crossover that NO ONE saw coming and that could ONLY come from Japan. Westerners can only laugh, and yet when you see the gameplay it looks quite cool. Here’s to hoping that Nintendo and Tecmo will have the courage to bring this to the West. It’s so weird and unique that I bet it’d sell… Besides, the historical series and franchises like Dynasty Warriors have become quite popular in the U.S. and Europe. So seeing “historical” Asian characters from ancient China or Japan or what-have-you is not new to Western eyes.

What do you think about Pokemon Tactics… err, Pokemon Cross Nobunaga’s Ambition?
