Deep within the forest lies the secret Skyview Temple. The clues from Faron Woods have brought Link to this puzzle-filled temple in search of Zelda. This is the first dungeon Link enters. The temple has been overrun by roots and mushrooms, and giant spider’s webs, monsters, and puzzles block the path ahead.
Break through the spider webs at the entrance and head forth to a wall covered in vines. Before climbing up, shoot the Deku Baba above with the Slingshot so you’re not bothered by it. Slash the diamond switch at the top of the wall to open the door below. In the next room, you’ll find an eye looking at you right above the door. Stand in the middle atop the stairway and take your sword out. The eye follows your sword, so do a circle motion with it to dizzy the eye and open the door. You’ll then get to a larger room with several doors. Go through the right one first. Shoot the crystal switch above the door with the Slingshot to open it. Jump down to the lower level of this room and look for a small passage you can crawl through at the bottom of the right wall. Use the Slingshot to shoot the switch above the statue’s head in the small adjacent room to flood the area. Climb up the vines to get out of there and return to the central room.
Jump down in the water and swim underneath the door on the left side of the room. You’ll find a switch below. Hit it to open the door and go through. Don’t attack the SKulltulas here; instead look on the right for some rolled up vines near the ceiling and shoot them with the Slingshot to lower them. Use them to cross and jump on the ledge between the two spiders. Then look at the wall between the two vines to find a crystal switch. Hit it with the Slingshot to raise the water level again. Cross over to the other side next and head through the door at the top of the room. Open the treasure chest behind to obtain the Dungeon Map!
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword includes a new item called the Beetle, which is introduced in the Skyview Temple. You can use this unique item to investigate elevated areas that Link cannot reach. With the Beetle you can also collect distant items and even cut through thin ropes and other objects.
Get back down to the central room. The water level now allows you to reach a wall covered in vines on the right. Take down the little spiders on the wall first with the Slingshot, then climb up to find a new door. It leads back to a room from before, but on the opposite side. Defeat the Skulltula first by slashing its belly when it turns around, then stand in the center of the room so the two eyes are looking at you and do a circle motion with your sword held up like before to make them dizzy. Open the chest behind to obtain a Small Key. Return to the central room and use the key on the door at the back of the room to unlock it. You’ll wind up in an open room with a dome in the center.
Use the Slingshot on the switch above the door in the middle to open it, and go inside the dome. You’ll face a Stalfos in a match to death! He will defend himself using both of his swords. You must slash him starting from the point he’s not defending, so if he’s holding both swords upwards; slash vertically. If he’s holding one sword up, slash horizontally from the bottom-right or left side, depending on which of his sides is open. A treasure chest will appear after the fight; containing the Beetle. Use it in direction of the opening in the wall and make it fly to the right to find a switch along the dome’s wall. Hit it with the Beetle to re-open the door so you can leave.
Back in the main open room, go left to find a locked door next to the save statue. Using the Beetle, fly through the small opening at the top of the wall above the door and navigate your way to a crystal switch in the center. Hit it to unlock the door and head through it. The next room has nothing for now, so just continue to the last room at the back. Defeat the spider here with a fatal blow, then turn around and climb up the vines on the left side of the room. You’ll see some crates hanging from the ceiling by cobwebs. Use the Beetle to pass through the cobwebs and allow the crates to fall down. Push the steel one down to the lower floor and move it in front of the three eyes at the back. You’ll need to place it in a spot where all three are looking at you when you’re standing on top of the crate. Then do a cirle motion with your sword to dizzy them and open the chest behind the gate for another Small Key. Go back to the previous room and use the Beetle to fly through the cobweb above. Hit the switch behind the SKulltula to flood the room so you can access the upper part. Crawl through the passage at the back to return to the main room.
Now go to the opposite side of the main room. You’ll see a locked door on the other side of a rope with some Deku Babas hanging from the ceiling. Use the Beetle to cut through their stems and get rid of them. Then cross the rope and use your key on the door. Defeat the three-headed serpent in the next room, then you’ll come to a Skulltula hanging above a chasm. Using the Beetle, cut through the cobweb holding it to make it fall down to its doom. Then dash towards the chasm to leap across to the other side. In the room here, you can shoot the switch above the door on the left to return to the main room. You’ll notice a Piece of Heart locked behind the dome, you can get it using the Beetle to fly through a hole in the wall at the very top of the dome (see below).
Then, cross the rope on the right and shake it while hanging down to make the two bokoblins fall. Once on the other side, go left and open the treasure chest for a Red Rupee. Climb up the vines on the wall on the right side afterwards and cut down the rope so you can use it to swing across to a tree in the center. Climb up the tree, then shoot down the vines on the far end with the Slingshot. Use the two vines to swing over to an opening in the wall on the left and open the treasure chest to find the Golden Carving. Climb up to get out of there and cross back the rope in the middle to access the golden door at the back. Rotate the carving with the wiimote so it’s like a ‘h’ and insert it into the door to unlock it.
A new foe appears in the Skyview Temple. The mysterious Ghirahim refers to himself as the Demon Lord, and possesses such awesome power that he is able to block a sword slash with a single hand. He stands in Link’s way and is determined not to let him pass…
The Demon Lord has two phases. In the first one, he will just toy with you and walk around. His only attack will be slapping you if you take too long to attak. He will also try to grab your sword and throw it at you; but you can avoid that by shaking the wiimote to get the sword out of his grasp. If he does grab the sword, just pick it back up from the floor. To attack him, watch his hand and move your sword around. You’ll notice he follows your movement to guard from you. Simply hold the sword in a position, then very quickly attack from the other way (if he guards from the top, attack from the bottom, if he guards from the left, attack from the right, etc). In the second phase, he will get a sword and attack you by throwing darts, ramming into you, and warping around. You can send the darts back at you with a simple attack, but the best way to attack him is to wait for him to teleport. Right after he re-appears next to you, attack him with a few slashes. If he dashes towards you, you can use the shield bash to block, or simply attack him. Shield bashing will stun him for a few moments though, so you can get a few attacks in. Just do like before and attack him from the opposite side he’s guarding.
Pick up the Heart Container when you’re done with him and go through the new door to be back outside. Before doing anything in here, go to back of the area in the water to find a Goddess Cube behind the structure. Hit it, then get back on the path in front of it and hold your sword upwards to fill it with light. Then slash away at the wing emblem to hit with an energy ray from where you’re standing. Now leave the temple and return to Skyloft. Go place your new piece of the tablet inside the goddess statue to open the way to the next area, Eldin Volcano.
The Piece of Heart in Skyview Temple can be found locked in behind the dome in the open room. To obtain it, use the Beetle to fly up to the very top of the dome and look for an opening in the wall. Hit the switch in here to open the gate so you can grab another Piece of Heart.
