Super Mario 3D Land Special World Star Coins Locations Guide (3DS)

Special World 2

Special World 2-1

Star Coin #1 – The first Star Coin is easily found hovering above the Music Note Blocks. Bounce on them to reach it! But do so very carefully, as the blocks are small and you can easily fall off to your doom!

Star Coin #2 – You’ll find this Star Coin located at the top of two connected yellow platforms that raise up and down, next to two large Music Note Blocks and following some Piranha Plants and Fire Piranha Plants (a sub-species of Piranha Plant properly called “Venus Fire Traps”). Simply walk into to it to add it to your collection. Be sure to take the Teleportation Block in the next section, as there is nothing else hidden.

Star Coin #3 – You will immediately spot the third Star Coin as you are exited from the Teleportation Block. Simply leap up from the yellow platforms to the castle in the background to get the final Star Coin. Be sure not to make the same mistake I did and do a flying leap to try and hit the Flagpole. Instead be safe and simply slide down the wall. You don’t wanna risk death!

Special World 2-2

Star Coin #1 – This is a timed stage, so right off the bat collect as many Time Coins as you can, don’t explore the first area and simply enter the pipe. Along the main path, you’ll find the first Star Coin easily enough, it is behind a Gold Ring, Coin Box and Blooper (squid enemy) on the main path, tucked in the upper-right-hand corner.

Star Coin #2 – The second Star Coin is found in the section with the fencing at the top and bottom, in front of the giant red eel (called Unagi). Simply swim up and grab this Star Coin that’s beside the top fence, in plain view. Don’t take time to kill the Unagi, or swim under him (that hidden area simply contains two Time Coins but also a dangerous Blooper who’s hard to avoid in the small room) and simply swim up to the exit.

Star Coin #3 – Star Coin #3 is impossible to miss. You’ll see it atop the box platforms next to the Flagpole. Use a Wall Jump to reach it.

Special World 2-3

Star Coin #1 – This level has you riding a green Arrow Platform throughout, just like the normal version of the stage. However it is made much more difficult by shadow Guzzies that move around specific parts of the stage and other hazards like Spike Dragons and swinging Spike Bars. You’ll find the first Star Coin hovering in the air directly after the two Spike Dragons. Carefully jump to get it before the Spike Bar has swinged close to you, to avoid the spikes and grab the Star Coin. In the proceeding section, DO NOT drop down to the lower level and head backwards toward the Coin Box. It looks tempting, but that Coin Box is decieving you as there is a POISON MUSHROOM inside! Do not go too far forward either, as there is nothing except the ability for your platform to fly off the edge. Also avoid the Red Coin Ring, and simply leap over to the third platform, avoiding the Shadow Fuzzies.

Star Coin #2 – You’ll find the second Star Coin located directly above the first Waterspray, on the left side. You’ll need to time it so the Arrow Platform is lifted, then stand on the left arrow so you move backwards and can leap to grab the coin. Having the Waterspray then lift you towards the right platform to progress is even tougher. Be sure you are high enough and can Long Jump towards safety with enough speed on the platform.

Star Coin #3 – The final Star Coin is located after the steep incline where the track drops the platform to a lower section. You should see the Star Coin coming down, as you land hold the down arrow to start moving backward, then carefully press forward and back so you slowly move backward, as the Star Coin is found at the very end and you can easily fall off the edge. Carefully leap up and the Star Coin is yours!

Special World 2-4

Star Coin #1 – You’ll find the first Star Coin located atop the giant blue-colored ice brick wall. Use the Propeller Block Power-Up to get on top of this wall and run all the way to the left to find the Star Coin.

Star Coin #2 – The second Star Coin is found to the right of its original placement, where you see the square made of snow-covered breakable bricks. Don’t be tempted to try and collect the regular Coins. You’ll see the Star Coin #2’s location above you thanks to its shadow. Use the giant Goomba Stack to reach it. Zip up with the Propeller Block and float down in order to bounce off the top Goomba’s head and get enough height to collect the second Star Coin.

Star Coin #3 – The final Star Coin is found very near to its previous location. You’ll notice it before you reach the ice block that leads to the Flagpole at the top. You’ll find the Star Coin directly above the two Donut Block platforms that fall if you stand on them. Stand on one and zip up to grab the Star Coin, then float back down to safety on the second Donut Block and use it to reach real safety to your right.

Special World 2-5

Star Coin #1 – You’ll find the first Star Coin when you hit the area with three Green Switches (the middle on at a different height) and three blocks on the side. Ignore the blocks as they contain a Poison Mushroom! What you want to do here is hit all three Green Switches, from right to left, then run over and start your ascent up following the middle switch. Quickly make yourself up to the little tower that is formed where you’ll find the first Star Coin.

Star Coin #2 – After hitting the Checkpoint Flag, you’ll see two Green Switches. Hit both starting at the right, and then follow the left. Don’t enter any Teleportation Blocks until you’ve followed the left pathway all the way to the point where it leads down and into a third Teleportation Block. Take it and you’ll exit into the second Star Coin. If you take the first Teleportation Block you come across, you’ll pop out at a 100 Point Time Coin. Whereas the second Teleportation Block leads you to the next part of the level.

Star Coin #3 – This third Star Coin is pretty deviously hidden. You’ll pop out of the above Teleporation block on a platform with three Green Switches. Stepping on them will start to build a house of cards, which build in a way that closes you in. So quickly hit one then run out and hit the other two, or hit all three and leap to exit out. As you do so you’ll see the structure being built in a very rapid pace. Quickly climb it and hit the Green Switch at the top (you’re only safe spot). Instead of Long Jumping to the next Green Switch, follow the Green Platform pads the lead behind you. They will abruptly end. From here you must make a Long Jump leap of faith, which will have you land on a platform with Star Coin #3! Phew. Touch level!

Special World 2-Airship

Star Coin #1 – This is a tough stage, if possible enter Powered Up. You’ll find the first Star Coin following the Red Coin Ring (be SURE to grab them all to get Statue Tanooki if aren’t already, as this makes getting all three Star Coins much easier). At the second section with a series of three canons, you’ll find the first Star Coin hovering above the end canon located on the left.

Star Coin #2 – Following the part with the Bob-Ombs and the Green Shell (hit the shell at an angle to earn some free 1Ups), you’ll see the second Star Coin in plain view, floating on a small platform in front of a giant Bullet Bill Canon. The giant Bullet Bill spells trouble for you, so while you can leap towards this Star Coin and get it normally, I’d highly advice getting this only with a Statue Tanooki. As Statue Tanooki, simply float towards the Star Coin and turn into Statue Mario as you are above the small platform, stay a Statue as the Bullet Bill will break upon impact with your hard body. Once you feel the time is right, let go of the button to return to normal and leap to safety.

Star Coin #3 – Use the same Statue Mario technique in the next section to bust the giant Bullet Bills, and make your way right until you see a safe spot where no Bullet Bill can hit you. Follow into the screen and you’ll see the third and final Star Coin!
