The Godfather: Five Families is now in Beta on Facebook, for this new social-networking empire-building MMO title.
Developed by Kabam, the game actually has the official Godfather license through a deal with Digital Entertainment, which will go a long way in helping the game compete with its main competitor, Zynga’s Mafia Wars titles.
The game is a crime-expansion title set in 1930’s New York City, using an art direction that accurately reflects the period although it is set in the Prohibition era, directly preceeding the timeline of the films. Giving you a sort of “prequel” look at the movies. And the game has the veteran backing of Kabam who has had much success with other empire-building games like Glory of Rome, Global Warfare, Dragons of Atlantis, and Edgeworld on Facebook.
In The Godfather: Five Families, players can join any of the five crime families who are vying for money, power and respect throughout the city. Players can then join together to form “crews” made up of other Facebook players; and can build up to become the “Don” or leader of the group. Of course, in order to do this you’ll need to recruit friends, build up your resources and defeat opposing factions to gain control of territory. The game even features an interesting storyline to follow that will allow players to create their own destiny through the open-ended story.
