Homefront 2 Announced for 2014 by Crytek!

Homefront 2 has been officially announced and is currently in development… BY CRYTEK!

That’s right, Crytek, the award-winning first-person shooter gods who created the Crysis and Crysis 2 games, have been handed the reigns to the Homefront sequel from former (and now closed) developer KAOS Studios.

While many lamented the closing of KAOS, one can only smile at the thought of Crytek doing Homefront the way that it SHOULD’VE been done. With a developer of such high pedigree in the driver’s seat, and THQ publishing, fans of the first game will most likely not be disappointed with this sequel.

The game will be released in 2014 (PHEW! That’s a long ways away!) and will likely build on the themes of a war in America’s backyard (by North Korea) that was established in the first title.

And while the first title sold enough to be a success for THQ, many were ultimately disappointed with it. So it’ll be really interesting to see where Crytek takes the series.

“Selecting Crytek to take Homefront forward underscores our strategy of working with the industry’s best talent,” said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. “Homefront’s unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek’s industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we’re supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand.”

“We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ,” said Cevat Yerli, Founder, CEO and President of Crytek. “We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It’s really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way.”

Homefront 2 will be released for both PC and console platforms. AWESOME.
