Counter-Strike 2: Global Offensive Announced. Coming In 2012 (XBLA, PSN, PC, Mac)

Counter-Strike 2: Global Offensive for consoles (Xbox 360 and PS3 via Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, respectively), PC and Mac promises to re-invent the multiplayer online PC shooter staple for a new generation. It will be released in early 2012!

Course, it’s not like Counter-Strike ever went everywhere, it’s as big now as it has ever been. But Valve will now be making a new push for Counter-Strike with CS:GO (the acronym for Counter-Strike 2).

Counter-Strike 2 is being developed by Hidden Path Entertainment (the developers who made hit Defense Grid), it will feature many new features including: “New maps, characters, and weapons,” on top of “updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.),” as well as “new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.”

The game will be playable at the Penny Arcade Expo later this month where it will make it’s worldwide debut.

The official announcement of Counter-Strike 2 follows tons of speculation and name-drops of the title on Facebook and the official Steam forums, as well as Twitter. As well as rumors that Valve had flied the top Counter-Strike community members from around the world to their Seattle, Washington-based HeadQuarters.

So what do you think about opening up Counter-Strike, FINALLY, to console players?
