3DS Price Drop 2011 Worldwide

A 3DS price drop 2011 has been announced! Own a Nintendo 3DS yet? No? Good, now’s the time to buy! Price cut FTW!

Nintendo has announced that their flagship handheld glasses-free stereoscopic 3D game system (say that three times fast) has been slashed in price to $170 in America from a high of $250 at launch.

This marks an incredible -$80 cut, saving the consumer 30% over the previous launch price. This drastic and abrupt price drop will go into effect on a fast-approaching August 12th worldwide, and is meant to bolster sales of the system which have been way behind expectations and sales projections for Nintendo.

“For anyone who was on the fence about buying a Nintendo 3DS, this is a huge motivation to buy now,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “We are giving shoppers every incentive to pick up a Nintendo 3DS, from an amazing new price to a rapid-fire succession of great games.”

In Europe the price cut will be “around a third” (retailers set the prices). In Australia the price has been cut to AU $249.95 from $349.95, with the New Zealand price being NZ $343.99. In Japan the cut is 15,000 Yen down from 25,000 Yen.

Nintendo also announced a revised earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2012, dropping its estimated profit to ¥20 billion ($257M), an 82 percent drop from the ¥110 billion ($1.41B) it expected. Ouch.

Now here is a 3DS commercial for your amusement.

Will you now be buying a 3DS thanks to the pricecut?
